I used to smoke... a LOT. between 2002 and 2005 I smoked everyday, and I often had more than 1 kind of weed at my disposal to choose from. I collected "headies" and "good outdoors" during this time. At my peak, I probably had something like 10 different kinds of weed. There was some small time dealing going on, but it was mostly trading and bartering.

Anyway, fast forward to trying MDMA in 2003 and going heavy on that for a few years, eventually I tried opiates and experimented with morphine at first, then oxycodone heavily around 2005/2006.

Starting around 2007, I got into heroin. From 2008 to 2011 I was pretty bad with heroin. I also had given up weed and MDMA. Upon doing some LSD for the first time in several years sin 2011, I seriously cut back my heroin/opiate usage. I still use, but it's been alot less than what it was. I also have started to use MDMA again, but I have a hard time not using heroin afterwards.

Anway, on to my question. I am trying to get back into smoking weed since its probably a lot better for me than using heroin. So, I stopped smoking weed everyday in 2005, and around 2007 or so I stopped completely. I have dabbled here and there with smoking weed again between 2009 and present, but I generally didn't buy any of my own weed. Now most recently, I have bought my own weed with the attempt to have a drug around to relax me that is not opiates.

BUT... I work fulltime and I go to school, so I am always working on something. I live 10 min from my office at work, so I can literally wake up at 8:30AM and be at work on time at 9:00AM.

I generally have been staying up late, until 2 or 3AM in the morning when I do my opiates.

When I smoke weed today, first, I get SUPER HUNGRY, way more hungry than I remember, like I will clean out the fridge. And when I smoke weed today, I often will get quite sleepy, and if I smoke before sleeping, say at 11PM, I am usually out like a light my midnight, and I am waking up around 9AM, sleeping all the way through from midnight to 9AM, 9 full hours. And often, I find that I feel like I need even more sleep, like 30 more minutes or so to stay in bed.

Because of these sleep side effects, I have limited my weed consumption. I enjoy getting stoned/high on weed, but what I don't enjoy is the fact that it causes me to require a significantly longer period of sleep per night. I usually cherish that time period between midnight and 2AM as "my time" and when I smoke weed, I fall asleep quickly, after cleaning out the fridge, and then have trouble waking up, more than I ever did with opiates.

My question is, will this continue? Is there anyone else in a position similar to mine? Do you become acclimated to the sleep inducing/sleep requirement effects of weed after continual smoking?

I'd prefer not to go back to using opiates all the time, but I must say I can function on a hell of a lot less sleep on opiates than I can when I smoke weed.

Yea opiates made me need less sleep as well, Id say its less the weed causing you the sleep its more the lack of opiates imo
I stay awake just fine on weed, often up till 2-3am playing games
And I just eat fruit instead of clearing out the fridge, fruit is a good snack

Maybe try a different strain?
I've been smoking on and off since 2005, pretty much always very strong indicas, and after a while I do get used to them I find it easy not to sleep on them, to the point that if I smoke as a sleep aid I find myself up later than intended, eating and listening to music

Almost any strain makes me very sleepy if I smoke enough of it. And "enough" is around 4-5 joints in 2-4 hours. 8AM, 4PM, 10PM, the effect is always the same.

Unless it's a sativa-indica hybrid leaning heavily on the sativa side...

I'd recommend Strawberry Cough, but that strain sucks in some ways (it hermies, like many plants from feminized seeds of Dutch companies, which aren't even developed in The Netherlands but in Spain or Switzerland or some other place). The Strawberry Cough clones being passed around the States are a different ball game, reportedly much better.

Pure sativas have been hybridized and I consider they don't exist anymore. Even what is being peddled as "sativa landraces" aren't sativas anymore, just hybrids.
The "Haze" tag has been dragged through the mud by some cannabis breeders. Haze my ass.

People in the USA and Canada have more options than europeans, more and better strains to choose from. Blue Dream and stuff like that.
Me, I'm still searching.
