Ok fess up...who's tried chroming?

Never tried it, haven't had the interest or desire too.

I've used 'nangs' twice in the past, and both times were whilst i was on LSD. It definitely warps your reality in such a strange way, but i couldn't imagine me enjoying it just on its own.

...
Anyone who has travelled on trains on the west of Melb will probably be familiar with the New Zealand kids who just ride the trains and chrome, pretty sad, some of them look no more than 11 or 12 years or old.

I've seen a few young kids in Brisbane chroming too; on trains, or out in the open, in public, broad daylight, absolutely no attempt at disguising it or subterfuge. Mixed racial backgrounds too so I'm not going to enter any debate there. Really quite sad :(

Has anyone seen Sampson and Delilah? A bit of an eye opener on petrol sniffing.

It would be interesting to see what socioeconomic status these kids come from.

Has anyone seen stats related to this?
I haven't got any stats, but from my observations of kids chroming in public they're usually of a lower socioeconomic standing. I know a lot of the kids under care of DHS chrome, but they also use other drugs as well. I won't pretend it doesn't exist in richer areas, but it seems to me it's usually kids whose problems run far deeper than simply wanting to get high.

Settle down fellas. Just where the practice it first came from is anyone's guess - unless someone can pull a reference....

Fwiw, when I was 15, sniffing lighter fluid was a common practice with a group of white, middle class students. Thankfully it was only a passing phase, as it was replaced largely by marijuana and/or alcohol

Deodorant was the first drug me and all my lower class white suburban male friends ever tried.

It actually produces quite a dramatic high that is hard to get your head around when you are a first time substance user. Butane is a little different but still gets you to roughly the same place.

I tried to do some deodorant a few years ago for the sake of nostalgia and it felt very very wrong, both on my body and mind.

I tried chroming when I was a dumb kid, it does offer a slightly better high than most people assume but its in no way worth the negative effects. Obviously I haven't done it for years and its the one "drug" I have done that I would rule out ever using again in any circumstance.

I sniffed a bit of glue as a 15/16 year old but then tried weed and never looked back.

My Heart is Broke but I have some glue.

Hey p_d, maybe you know, but since a few people here are saying they have used butane and I always thought it was one of the more dangerous inhalants?

Something no one has mentioned yet, I am surprised, is sudden sniffing death syndrome. Some inhalants sensitize your heart to norepinephrine so much that a small startle can lead to a heart attack and death. I think Dust Off was notorious for this, and I remember reading once that butane is one of the inhalants that can also cause this.

Can someone who has used it describe the effects? I've read on Erowid but I don't remember getting a clear idea of what it was like...

It is quite toxic to the heart, and has been associated with a significant number of deaths.

^ Yeah that's what I thought, I might see if I can do some research tonight and see if I can find something comparing the toxicities of various inhalants, I would like to know which are the more dangerous.

Of course none of the hardware store highs are exactly safe... ether sounds interesting though I'm not sure about it's toxicity.

Abstract
A 20-year retrospective study of inhalant deaths in South Australia, autopsied at Forensic Science SA, was undertaken from January 1983 to December 2002. Thirty-nine cases were identified from an autopsy pool of 18,880 cases, with a male to female ratio of 12:1. Sixty-four percent of the victims (N = 25) died during voluntary inhalation of volatile substances and 28% (N = 11) committed suicide utilizing a volatile substance or gas. The remaining 3 cases involved a workplace accident (N = 1) and 2 cases of autoerotic death where inhalants were being used to augment solitary sexual activity. The mean age of the 28 victims of accidental inhalant death of 21 years (range, 13–45 years) was considerably less than that of the 11 suicide victims of 31.5 years (range, 17–48 years). No homicides were found. Approximately one quarter of the victims were Aboriginal (N = 11), 10 of whom had died as a result of gasoline inhalation (“petrol sniffing”). Other common substances of abuse were aliphatic hydrocarbons such as butane. The study has shown that those most at risk for accidental or suicidal inhalant deaths were young males, with 92% of victims overall being male, and with 77% of victims being under 31 years of age. Gasoline inhalation remains a significant problem in Aboriginal communities in South Australia.

I'm embarrassed about it but I tried it once just so I could say i've tried it. I filled a plastic bag with black spray paint and inhaled, i got maybe this incredible head buzz for ten minutes but it seemed like an hour, then for three days I had this constant headache and just felt like shit.
Definitely not worth it and you get this awful taste in your mouth

Done it twice. Feelings for me where:
Light headed, nervous (due to danger involved) tunnel vision, and nod for 10 seconds to 1 min. It took my second try to achieve this state. In my opinion it's not worth the danger and brain damage. However here are some facts about it. The high comes mainly from lack of oxygen. ie, tunnel vision. Try huffing without the chemicals and you'll kill brain cells and put stress on your heart due to lack of oxygen. The propelent is overated, and not a good high. So i'd say not worth the try. Peace.

My heart stopped on it when I was 15, I thank God and my lucky stars I was with my best mate, who is a smart lad so he checked for a pulse, didn't find one and gave me a heart massage.

Never did it again after that.

Never heard of chroming back then though.
