I'm unsure if this qualifies as asking or wanting synthesis info, it is curiosity and concern that drives me to ask. if in writing this question I violate the rule regarding asking about drug synthesis or anything of the sort I apologize please remove this.

the other day when me and my friends were smoking I noticed that the gear had an oily texture and appearance while also tasting slightly different if anyone could give me a scientific explanation chemical reasoning behind this I would really appreciate it and in question does this present a dangerous risk to my health or is it reasonable or harmless?

I believe when methamp is in an oil state, it's the freebase.. If yours was solid but felt oily, it could be from a sloppy recrystallization from the cook or a "cut" to make it weight more than it exactly is

All methamphetamine represents a risk to your health. It's a neurotoxin and there's not really a way around that.

Methamp freebase would be a stright up oil, but I know 1. methamphetamine hydrochloride crystals are hygroscopic and will suck up water from the surrounding air, and 2. meth dealers are shifty fucks who will cut gear with anything they can find.

Nobody can tell you what's in your shit without having some and running it through a GC/MS.

Agreed.....unknown oil cannot be determined. Unless you are buying quantity or directly from a sloppy "cook", who knows if the product has undergone (as suggest) re-crystallization. Are they large translucent crystals (generally these will have fissures in them)?. If made correctly the crystals should be rather hard, translucent, and if a pure salt, should have minimal odor. Lower quality "flaky" crystals are the result of amateurish synthesis, and is fragile, with the consistency of phlogopite (aka 'mica'). I have only seen powdered methamphetamine a few times, and never used this grade. I believe opaque and powdered meth are more common in the mid-west, but this is a guess.

If your meth is oily and has a strong odor I would certainly avoid it. 4-MAR, though rare, is typically a slender opaque crystal, with a TCM-like smell, and this compound (isomer, unknown) had a subjectively "greasy" feeling. Your d-METH salt should not be oily. If you are intent on using it I would wash it. Then again, I would advise against the use of it in general. Fortunately, though curious and experimental, I never truly enjoyed these stimulants, in my opinion cocaine is a far superior drug..........it's also shorter acting and comparatively expensive.

Wash it.......then consider if meth is "worth it".....Sustained high-dose abuse rarely turns out "good"......Again, the oil is a either from a dirty synth, possible light/moisture degradation, an intended cut, or the use of very low grade solvents (ex., automotive grade ether which contains lubricants and petroleum distillates). If it smells like naptha get rid of it......

meth use always feels great, thats for sure...

until you've been up for 3 days and the psychosis is fucking everything up forever

but if you have benzo's on hand and can control your use to like 20mg/day its really a great stimulant...

Could be many things, could be petrochemicals left in from the solvents they were using. It could be pyrolysis products of METH and Methylsulfonylmethane used to cut it.

Smoking methamphetamine is so dangerous to your health that I wouldn't bother wasting time trying to figure out whether or not whatever oil is in your gear is.
