Opioids (ohio) methadone clinic question

Hey everone this is only my second post but have always used bluelight as a refcerence. Please excuse my grammer. Anyway ill get to the question I've been using opiates for about a year or so now and the last few months I've began to IV heroin and other pills. I'm ready to be done but just dont think I can stop without help I've quit using several times and made it through the physical withdrawl but always pick it right back up. I've used methadone before and enjoy it enough that I know if I was in a program I could stop all other drugs .....anyway I'm wondering what the criteria is for entering the programs I havnt gone to a clinic yet because its kind of a far drive. My question is that I've heard from several people that the only way they except you is if you live in the county where the clinic is and my county does not have any am I screwed or is there any other way around this . I live in ohio if thers anyway anyone can shed some light on what the best way to go about it would really would be helpful. Also I do not want to get on suboxone so please just help me
 
The criteria of entering the clinics I was a part of in NJ was simply testing positive for H.

Honestly when I first went I just had a really heavy prob..they didn't care that I didn't IV. When I went the second time they wanted to see track marks and a positive urine for h..which was easy lol.

That's really all it takes. Mine was $50 a week... and my legal address was not in the county. Maybe if you are looking to get on free or something, but most meth clinics are private businesses that just wanna make $$$

I am back on subutex though..I hated my time spent at the meth clinic, driving back and forth, getting drug tested fuckin twice a week, having to have every little move/vacation approved by your conselor and doctor, having to meet with a counselor once a week and all the bullshit you have to go through to keep your takehomes. It got old QUICK. I knew what I was in for...but I didn't listen to anyone...
 
Thanks for the info I kinda thought there main interest would be your money but just have heard that it can be hard to get into the programs....how long do you have to go before you get take homes?
 
Well you have to have 90 days of clean urines...took me 4 months because they considered my admission urine dirty (which is has to be to fucking get in). I was still using benzos and using occasionally..but got around the tests. I ended up purposely missing a day, which is acceptable at my clinic, then i overslept and missed day 2, if you miss 2 days its policy for an on the spot instant drug test..came up positive for opiates, so long my takehomes. If you tested positive for benzos or anything other than opiates at my clinic, you would get a warning before losing your takehomes. Weed was not tested for at all.

But it took me about 4 months to get my takehomes and 2-3 weeks to loose them, and another few months to decide to say FUCK YOU and walk otu the door a happy man.
 
Why don't you want to try suboxone? You have a lot more freedom with it. But that could also hurt if you're not totally ready to get clean I guess.
 
I'm not completly against suboxone i ve used them for about a month and a half daily (from the street) and would still always have an urge to use. For me methadone has always been one of my favorite opiates. When I take methadone I really lose a lot of the cravings because it gives a nice buzz and last a long time. I know that those feeling will faid with an increased tolerance for it but I just think I would end up relapsing with suboxone. Thanks for the info

I'm not sure you phrased that as you wanted... you said to use it as a last resort but that none of the first resorts work. I presume you meant for YOU but just wanted to make sure.

Also I fully agree, methadone is not an optimal treatment and a lot of people get on it prematurely. There are a lot of other, better ways to get clean but a lot of people don't want to actually try to get clean. They just want to take a pill and hope everything else just works out.

Often, this fixes nothing and you're left with all the problems that lead you to use and resulted from your use PLUS you're stuck in liquid handcuffs. Methadone can be harder to get off than a 75 year old man who drank a handle of bourbon.

You will quickly get over the "honeymoon" period with methadone. There will be no high, however, there will be reduced cravings? Is it worth the trade off? Not IMO.

I personally like the freedom that comes with bupe. You can dose twice a day, follow your own rules, not feel like you are handcuffed to the clinic and have to bow at their every request.
 
Opiate reduction therepy is the only good alternative to using IME. In FLA you don't have to be positive for opiates to get in the clinic. Basically they watch you after giving you your first dose and monitor you vitals. Buprenorphine, which I'm on now, sucks from my 5 year exp with it. Using agonists to maintain is the only way I've been successful. Methadone is an agonist but the setting and conditions one must take it in isn't suitable for alot of people and can even do more harm than good to a patient. It's funny to me we allow bupe to e taken at home given that we see from Europe it's high abuse potential. That's another thread though.
 
I would definitely suggest Suboxone over Methadone. I've been on Suboxone for 2 months now and I love it. I don't crave or withdrawal at all, I don't have to drive to the clinic everyday to get my dose, It comes in individually wrapped packaging so I can carry one with me. There's so many pluses to taking Suboxone over Methadone.
 
Waring about Ohio methadone clinics, they have some of the worst reputations in the US for service and ignoring patients rights. I would recommend trying buprenorphine (Subutex/Suboxone) first.

If you really want to go methadone - which I encourage - it beats being a slave to the needle and it works!

Also for a list of treatment locations take a look at:

http://dpt2.samhsa.gov/treatment/directory.aspx they don't always keep it updated so you may want to cal you state's methadone authority and ask if there's a newer clinic closer to where you live if there isn't one listed that's close by. Close proximity is pretty important at first since you'll be going six days a week at first.
