Not that we owe anyone any explanations....but I usually retort when the haters come out of the woodwork.
Dayton Gym Club:
Would you rather party at a venue that may or may not get shut down? We opted to pay more on a lock solid venue that has a history of not getting shut down. Yes, that is money that could have went for a headliner, but what good is a headliner if the party gets shut down before they even go on? We wanted to provide a party that would last all night for those who want to stay all night. Yes, we had to sacrifice a headliner to do it, but to us that was a small price to pay for that piece(peace?) of mind for us and everyone else.
Headliners:
As stated above, our budget allowed for either a dope venue that we can trust to let us go all night or get a lower-end headliner. Headliners' booking fees are ridiculous for NYE, and we had HUGE success with doing an all-locals/regionals NYE party back in '03/'04 (Tri-State Love 1). With amplified NYE rates from headliners, the best we would have been able to do is a lower-rated headliner, and then instead of getting slammed for not having a headliner, we'd be slammed for not having a better headliner or someone people have heard of. We can't win for losing, which is the name of the game as promoters. We accept that responsibility, so we made the decision to take the lesser of 2 evils by doing an all local/regional lineup and maybe have a chance at breaking even while showcasing just some of the incredible talent the Midwest has to offer. Sure you may have seen them all several times before, but I highly doubt any of them are going to be putting on the same show they put on two, four, or six months ago (I know I'm not). New tracks are always being dropped...and DJ's are always changing their track selections up. Those who are still in the scene support it with all they have...unfortunately we just don't have as many in the scene that support it like we did at one time. If we were expecting the same amount of people we were expecting for Uno, or the Positive Parties or whatever....we would have shopped for a headliner without a second question.
Voting:
The voting system was very casual, admittedly. Jason and I used our two MySpace accounts and the ITG MySpace account to post bulletins saying we were accepting votes to see who people wanted to see. The people on our lists reposted those bulletins and suddenly we were receiving messages and friend requests from people we had never seen before from all over the Tri-State. Jason explained in the post that not all of the slots would be determined by the votes and that the votes had to be for a local/regional from Ohio/Indiana/Kentucky. We counted the votes and put the winners into the slots that were alotted. I hardly think this is a reason to cry out for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.
Price:
$20 may seem stiff for some, but it's NYE, and this party goes all night (not 2 or 3am like most bars). $20 before 11pm is not that ridiculous considering every NYE party we have thrown or played for in the past had at least 95% of the total attendance before midnight. (People want to be partying for NYE so they typically show up earlier). The amount of people that pay $15 to attend our 4 hour boat parties is consistently rising again...especially this past year. So why not $5 more for the entire night on a special night? A portion of our proceeds from our events have been going to helping a child with neuroblastoma all year, and this party is no different. So, if you need the justification for paying $5 more to come to this party, how about helping a desperate family in need whose child may or may not survive this horrible disease (

Jay-P Gold, we have dealt with your kind before, and we will deal with more just like you long after this party. If you aren't coming, then don't come. You are certainly welcome to your opinion and vocalize it because your opinions are no sweat on or off our back, but if you have anything CONSTRUCTIVE to contribute we welcome your comments to any of the email addresses at the bottom of this post. Maybe some open dialogue will take that chip off your shoulder and make you realize that after more than a decade, several successful parties, club events, a record store, a booking agency and artist management system, and hundreds of gigs played between the two of us all over the country (and even internationally for Jason), we aren't the [super evil trying to get rich off the scene drugged out douchebags] you may have encountered in the past. Anyone who knows ITG knows the level of integrity we put into everything we do and try with all of our power to uphold. However, we have no obligation to include anyone else in our lineup decisions or our voting system. That's the beauty of being a part of your own crew.....you don't have to answer to anyone else. We counted the votes and we built the lineup...simple as that. So to say we needed to consult you and other promoters or agents just shows your misguided perception of self-importance. Your general negativity is unappreciated, yet I was wondering who it would be this time to start. Just so happens to be you. So, as we have said in the past, our door is open. Drop us an email, give us a call, hell let's go to dinner...give your opinions and comments in a respectful way, and who knows what kind of connections may open up for all of us. But sitting here on your self-righteous-high-and-mighty does nothing for no one, and adds to my perception of you as yet another who is just jaded and can never be satisfied with anything unless your hands are in the cookie jar too.
Everyone: Obviously, there are many choices for everyone to do
something on NYE. We are throwing a party. Our parties, and this venue, have been a part of many great memories for a lot of people in the past. This year will be no different. We may not have a "headliner", but regardless of what anyone says I believe we have TALENT on this lineup, and some of it was chosen by those who chose to participate in our request to vote. We hope to see you all there, but if we don't.....BE SAFE AND MAKE THE BEST OUT OF THE NIGHT, IT ONLY COMES ONCE A YEAR!!!!!!
