Officials find little effect on drugs in Texas border surge

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - The surge of Texas National Guard personnel, state troopers and game wardens to the border with Mexico has done less than hoped to stop illegal drugs.

The Austin American-Statesman (http://atxne.ws/1LTuN8D ) reported Friday that officials say the effort has done little to push drug prices higher, as authorities hoped.

Greg Thrash with the Drug Enforcement Administration in Austin says no slowdown has been detected in supply. Thrash also says wholesale prices of drugs are dropping.

Then-Gov. Rick Perry ordered the surge last June, dubbed Operation Strong Safety. The effort was in response to a sharp increase in illegal border crossings and also to disrupt drug supplies from Mexican cartels.

Texas leaders are seeking up to $815 million to expand border operations over the next two years.

Officials: Border efforts had little impact on drug supply or price

A nine-month surge of state law enforcement into the Rio Grande Valley has done little to curb the supply of illegal drugs in Texas or push drug prices higher as officials had hoped, local, state and federal officials say.
The state launched Operation Strong Safety in June in an attempt to slow what was then a sharp increase in illegal crossings and to disrupt criminal activities of Mexican cartels. So far, the state has spent more than $120 million to send hundreds of Department of Public Safety troopers, Texas National Guard soldiers and state game wardens to the border in far South Texas. State leaders are pushing to spend as much as $815 million to expand border operations over the next two years, which would nearly double the state’s border security spending.

I don't care about illegal immigrants coming to the US, most of them are hard workers and good people just trying to secure a better life for themselves and their families.
Imean, as they say, there's a bad apple in every batch, but the few bad ones shouldn't stigmatize the entire population. Just as many bad people born in america as well.

At this point border control is merely a physical means of enacting capital controls.

The movement of drugs isn't important, it is the flow of cash that is a problem.
