Hi everybody. I used subutex for around 8 1/2 years and got off it last year on July, I tapered to 0.4. I used heroin and then morphine to combat the withdrawals, then only suffer 2 weeks with mild withdrawals. Did not really have much PAWS other then bit of of boredom but it wasn't that as I had anticipated. I was clean for 4/5 months but then started to do sub at lowest dose once a week, around my 1mg to 0.5mg,, this has been going on for around 2 months. .. Now my question is will I really have withdrawals from this occasional sub use? I didnt have it too bad after 8 years, I more or less recovered after 2 weeks. So am hoping just doing 1mg or 0.5 mg now and then will not give me too much trouble.

thanks.

Well, psychologically perhaps you might feel you need it if you've done it on a regular basis, you could have got used to it. But physically I don't think this is going to go beyond placebo, because 1) it's a low dose of buprenorphine for people with general opioid tolerance, and 2) it dissociates slowly from the receptors, so the concentration slowly changes, so it's not such a shock for your body as it is from short-acting opioids abuse.

No if you can continue to only use once a week like that, you will not become dependent. But, if you start increasing your intake.. pushing it to a few days in a row here and there, etc, you'll pick one up quick.

Thanks for the responses. Do you guys think I would get restless legs? remember this is just once a week dosing, only been doing it for 2 months, so if I was to stop completely and go with subs would I feel the restless legs/insomnia. I hope am not building the bup back up in my system.

If someone had bit of PAWS around 3-5 months from sub then would a small piece really set u back? if it does it can't be more then few days right?

Buprenorphine has a fraction of morphine's activity at the receptors, so when it's gone from the receptors, the less you actually lose. And like I wrote previously this happens slowly. Withdrawal is a result of your body adjusting to some state (which is high concentrations of an opioid), with buprenorphine this is less significant, and with low enough dose the concentration drops so steadily that your body is able to get back to homeostasis. PAWS is a more complex problem, but I don't think such a low dose would affect the severity of it.

Absolutely! If it's truly once a week, you're good....but 2 days on, 1 day off, 2 days on, 1 off, 1 on, etc, etc...and it won't be long!

I've experienced "surprise dopesickness" before, it's a stressful feeling....

Idk man... bupe lasts a day or two so it's pushing it going for once a week, though most likely no probs.

Anyone have the best hypothesis as to how easy it is to get withdrawals again from dope ? How many times a week does one have to use to suffer withdrawals again ? Curiousity.. have no intention of using any time soon. I'm currently 44 days free from methadone.

Depends on in the individual but.. if you've been dependent and kicked multiple times, you get strung out again very fast. 3-4 days using in a row, and you're done. Sometimes even less than that.
