A friend of mine recently picked up the needle after about a year of abstinence from opiates and spikes. He used to know a diabetic who was more than happy to hook them up with bags of gauge 28 insulin syringes from time to time. Having been abstinent from dope and in that time feeling no urge to boot anything else he and his diabetic friend fell out of touch. Long story short he can no longer find gauge 28 insulin syringes, except of course on the streets of Newark, New Jersey(he would rather not do this as some people will resell used syringes and that is taking a HUGE risk.

What he has currently is a syringe body which allows you to switch the spike on it. At the moment he has two types of spikes to use with this syringe body. The first is 25g x 1 1/2'' which is pretty long even though the gauge is not too too big, the second is 23g x 1'' which is great length wise but the gauge is far too large to use continuously. He has been trouble hitting veins with both of these types of spikes. I have watched him a few times and even if he hits a vein(as noted by a large amount of blood when he pulls out after not being able to register) he is hardly ever able to get a good register if any at all.

I guess I should attempt to explain how exactly he goes about trying to register. Basically he gets to the point where he believes he might be a vein and pulls the plunger back a bit to create a vaccuum which should begin to pull blood up into the syringe when he has the tip of the spike within a vein. If he doesn't register right away be holds the plunger back to keep the vaccuum, while doing this he begins to fish around for a vein, usually without success. Actually, he just began booting dope again earlier tonight and the only time he was able to successfully register and hit a vein was his first shot, it should be noted he was using one of the long 26g spikes. After that first hit he has taken at least two more shots, neither going for the same vein and neither hitting their mark.

I guess what I am asking here is for advice for my friend in dealing with wider gauge spikes. Also any general wisdom having to do with registering or alternatives to registering would be greatly appreciated.
My friend and I have also been discussing the possibility that some of the dope we got might be or contain a fair amount of fentanyl. Neither one of use has ever tried something we knew 100% that it was fentanyl. We were wondering if there is a simple test we can do to determine if this is indeed fentanyl as we have heard rumors that a lot of the dope floating Newark these days is at least laced with fentanyl. Also any experiences with fentanyl and/or how it compares to good ol' anthropomorphically would earn much gratitude.

Any help you can offer, or experiences with either of these two things would be greatly appreciated. Also feel free to ask questions here pertaining to IV drug use or diacytalmorphine. Thanks in advance for the information and answers.

Roger that, I'll take a look at the megathread, thanks for pointing me in it's direction. I hope they have some discussions about wider gauge spikes.

Thank you, also, for formatting my post a bit, I'll have to keep paragraphs in mind next time I type up a long post about multiple topics.

Itss very rare for dope to have fent in it. Most of the times people say that it's unwarranted bullshit (not to say your are not right.. just speaking in generalities).

The best way to register if you are a beginner is pierce the skin, immediately after doing so, pull back a few units to create a vacuum. THEN proceed to insert the syringe further until you hit the vein. When you hit the vein blood will shoot into the syringe.

Trying to enter the vein prior to creating the vacuum makes it considerably harder.

Even 25g is larger than I would ever use.. I never go over 27g, 29g being the preference. Even with 30g 1/2" pins I don't have difficulty registering.. but obviously due to the tip size flow is restricted quite a bit compared to a 27g.

You are right though.. usin ga 25g or 23g will inflict considerable trauma compared to a 29g pin.

Thiose needle sizes you mention are simply not ideal for IVing, ESPECIALLY for a beginner. Aside from the thick guage doing more damage to veins, such a long length can make it very difficult to shoot when you are IVing. 1 1/2" should be used for IM.. I am a little overweight and my veins are deep, so i use 1/2" tips. Anything shorter gives me very limited choices of veins. Anythign longer makes it considerable harder to shoot because it;s harder to anchor the pin. I can't imagine IVing iwtha 1 1/2" pin.

Your best bet is to go to a needle exchange and have them set you up. Around here the exchanges most popular pin they carry is a 1/2" 28g 1cc Terumo. They are great. My local one also carries 27g and once in a while 29g..all 1/2" tip. They don't even carry the shorter tips, and they also have 21g 1 1/2" pins for IM which hurt like a bitch they are so thick. According to someone on opiophile, hospitals use 18g-20g to IV on adults and 24g on children.. I simply do not beleive that.. 18g is fucking MONSTEROUS..and to a kid 24g is huge too. Not to mentio h ow much damage thi shit does.
