IMO they might come out with a new formula but it will never be the way it was.

I would think that if they would change it again, they would make it even harder for people to misuse. Or even worse take it off the market due to the overwhelming abuse rate?

i can pretty much guarantee that every major pharmaceutical company right now, especially purdue, is spending millions, probably billions, trying to come up with a new formulation of the original

No, never go back. but yes, they may try it in a combination with naltexone in the future. But never go back.

This is kind of off topic and lazy of me but... What is Naltexone, and what are the reasons that they'll put it in with oxy.

since purdue is a privately held company, this info is probably hard to find but im curious as to what the company's financials are since they have put the new formulation on the market as compared to right before the old ones were banned....

It would increase analgesia and prevent/reverse opiate tolerance/dependency. But basically prevent you from being able to snort or inject it.

It will be called "OxyTrex" when it is released. They are in Phase III trials right now.

"And, Dr. Crain theorized, this research may enable the withdrawal of highly addictive high-dose opioid preparations, such as Oxy-Contin, from the market because they simply will no longer be needed."

Here is a site with more info

The first part of that I'll reserve judgement on. It would prevent IV or nasal use. Of course oxy works fine orally.

In aus they still have the OC on one side so dunno if it's the same or not

I just got the Embeda today, the morphine/naltrexone capsules. It sucks, I just made a thread on it in here, so you will probably see it.

Some people say that its like suboxone how the naltrexone (naloxone in suboxones case) is actually inactive, and they use it as a scare tactic and to get doctors to script it easily. They say that it is inactive if you do not crush the pills, but some people have said that the dose of naltrexone is too low to do anything even if you do crush it, releasing it. I'm not about to try and find out though.

As for the whole "bringing back the old OC formula", anything that we say is pure specualtion at this point. But I will go ahead and speculate that the original OC will not be brought back, and if the OPs change it will be to something else.

if you want the old ones go down to canada.. down here i haven't seen a single OP oxy we have the old formula and hopefully will always have the old one =D

Yeah we have the old formula but oxy in general is wayyyy too fucking hard to find in most places in Canada.

It won't be taken off the market, it's very profitable.

Purdue Pharma no longer profits from the original OxyContin's as its a generic now. Now they come out with these new "abuse proof" OxyContin so that they can make more money. They will ride these out until they become generics and then produce a newer abuse proof drug. So Purdue has no control over the sales of the original OC's and doctors would rather prescribe medications that can't be abused.
