Further from the post below about "who cares about meth sddicts" it seems as if NZ is finally beginning too. Medication used to treat ADHD sufferers may help P addicts kick their habit.

Methylphenidate commonly known by the brand name Ritalin is being given to methamphetamine abusers in 22-week trials.

It is hoped the medication will stop the P addicts' craving in much the same way a nicotine-patch stops the craving for cigarettes.

The trials follow contact between New Zealand health authorities and their counterparts in Finland, who have run similar tests with promising results. the trial's lead investigator, said: "We thought it was a reasonable thing to do in New Zealand, given that p (meth) is is a particular problem in this country.

"I think it's quite important for this group of people (P addicts) we look at some of these answers, because there is nothing much available in a pharmacological sense shown to make a difference.

I saw a doco recently where (ice) users were being trialed on Dexamphetamine, which seems to be used more in Aus than here

I would assume they would dispense daily pick-ups of LA MPD like Concerta or daily pick-ups on Dex in Aus ala-Methadone style.
