NYC smokers to pay $9 a pack for smokes

Why is everyone saying that this is discrimination against the poor? Rich people will have to pay the increased price too.
 
order your cigs off the internet, it's dirt cheap, you can get good cigs like Nat Shermans for half the price you pay for regular cigs at the store, in Chicago Nat Shermans are $10 but the are the best cigs ever

In Chicago (all Cook county to be exact) cigs are $7-8, you drive to the adjacent county and they are like $4-5, almost double, so ridiculous

heh, in NC $4 is about the most you can pay for a pack of cigarettes.
the cheapest are right at a dollar.

but then again, most of the cigarettes are made 15 minutes from where i live haha.
 
Yea this shit dont stop me. Im in jersey. I can go buy loosies in the corner store in the hood, Or i can buy newports for 5 dollars a pack from the dude by penn station in newark, Or i can take a road trip to PA and get a carton for 35 bucks, i aint sweatin. They raising taxes here too, but the point is that the black market always gonna be there and for those of us in the areas where black market everything is around on the daily its a very accessible thing so fuck the increase, we still gonna stay smoking......
 
AFAIK, cartons aren't 35 in PA. At least not the name brand cigs.

A pack of name brand cigs are around $6. Usually more.

this is such bullshit! they are just doing this in an attempt to get ppl to quit smoking b/c of all the ppl bitching about second hand smoke. i like how alcohol has not gone up in price at all. they are basically saying now that alcohol is okay but not tobacco. even tho alcohol is just as bad, in fact its worse than tobacco!
 
just bought a pack of marlboro menthols in ri for 7 dollars even which aint that bad, fuck that i would just roll my own or buy online!

in hick country Pa they are fo sho. Im sure in philly its more expensive. but yea....they might of went up a little but they still cheap as hell out there in the country you gotta take a hour and a half drive to scary lookin deliverance type places that are creepy as fuck but you leave with some cheap azz cartons tho..
 
I just roll my own cigs. Better quality at a lower price. The only thing that sucks is that only a few places where I live sell good rolling tobacco like bali shag.

they're not doing this to try to make people quit smoking. they're doing this because they know people will pay ridiculous amounts of money to keep smoking. sure a small percentage of smokers will quit when prices go high, but that will never outweigh the profits of those who will keep paying large sums of money for packs/cartons. nicotine is the most addictive substance on earth supposedly. you know, well... i'm a smoker too, so... we're paying them to kill ourselves basically. sucks doesnt it....
