So.....I can assume they're low in fat, and high in fiber.....but can anybody make any other claims to any other vitamin/minerals, or on the other hand, dangerous molecules like heavy metals (I read somewhere that the seeds are high in heavy metals like lead), but what about the pods?

I'm assuming they're pretty much inert fiber, etc, along with the morphine/etc...but is there anything else, in quantity to mention, present in poppy pods? Mods...if this is just way too...well...."who cares"...feel free to delete or move...just felt this might be a good place to reach someone who has or know someone who has access to this info or the means to gather it

Kind of an odd question. If you truly talking about the nutritional/mineral aspect of it, then rest assured that the amount you would consume recreationally would have neglible levels of vitamins/calories/minerals.

However, the more important question you touched upon was the question of heavy metals or chemicals. Because many poppies are grown for "ornamental purposes" and not as food, there might be good reason for concern that chemicals and heavy metals might be present. I would imagine that the poppies grown for their seeds would be safe since they are intended to be consumed, but as for the rest, I doubt they have to meet any sort of safety requirements.

I made a thread awhile back where I was asking about the best way to analyze a cup of poppy tea to see if there were any dangerous chemicals or substances present. It didnt get much support.

Anyhow, I dont think there is any way to know for sure if your pods contain dangerous chemicals or heavy metals unless you are willing to have it analyzed. However, given the large numbers of people who use poppies regularly, and the apparent absence of any horror stories regarding chemical/heavy metal poisoning, I wouldnt be terribly concerned.-DG

If grown properly on a clean field with clean soil, they should not contain significant amounts of heavy metals.

If you're making tea, the caloric value is negligible, any real source of nutrition would come from the seeds, which have plenty of fatty acids and various minerals....
