Well I just got started taking this lexapro crap and it seems that its making me feel like i dont really want to smoke or i dont have the need to smoke. I have been smoking pot everday for the past 4 or 5 years and it sorta became a addicting habbit where everything is boring unless im high and everything i did eveolved around getting stoned. Has anyone here who has taken lexapro before experianced this?

I think you're being prescribed something when you don't even need it. It looks like the marijuana is your problem, not some neurological one..

Have you told your doc you're using pot?

how would you know if i need lexapro or not do you even know why he prescribed it to me? If you looked in second opinion and see my other post you would see my symptoms im feeling and you would see Its for my anxiety which ive had before i smoked pot. Also for depression which I told my doc Ive never been doin betta in my life I have zero depression but she still gave me this oh well she insists it works great on anxiety guess well see.

Blowmonkey, i'm curious where you're comming from, your post seems disturbingly incomplete.

If lexapro is helping you quit smoking pot, good for you. It's not a common side effect for the drug (or any SSRI's for that case). Long term addiction can occasionally be ended almost instantly by SSRI's by what seems like sheer luck (A former alcohol i knew who drank over a case of beer a day stopped drinking entirely after being on an SSRI for two weeks.)

And SSRI's seem to have some anti-anxiety properties, but it's certaintly not as effective as a benzo. Again, if it works for you, it works, and most bluelighters would recomend you avoid benzos at all cost due to the rapid cycle of addiction

ya thats what i was reading in some more recent posts but I think I still might go back and get some xanax or somethin nice : )

Honestly, dealing with benzos is likely more trouble than it's worth. If you insist on trying them however, i'd reccomend starting with ativan, it seems to be the least addictive and recreational, and works well for anxiety.

I don't mean to give an overly harsh impression of benzos, but a vast majority of people i've talked to regret having being on them. They can certaintly help for anxiety, but have many problems assioated with them.

In what way should it be disturbing?

He's feeling good thanks to the SSRI's, but why was he feeling bad? Maybe because he was smoking too much pot and that made him anxious, I didn't know you were having anxiety issues before you started smoking spini, that's why I asked.

I've been on Celexa which is like Lexapro's older brother, for 2 1/2 weeks and I've still been smoking daily.

Damn your goodness pot!

People quiting heaving pot usage after taking SSRIs (and other antidepressants I assume) is quite common from my experience.

Who knows. The pleasure thermostat is a complicated piece of shit....

Will this be related to the increased level of seratonin? i find myself less inclined to smoke and smoke weed on higher doses of MDMA, even though they become more fun (then again, what isn't fun on pills)

FYI, SSRIs don't increase your seratonin levels, they just regulate how much you can access at any one time.
