I've been told by health care professionals that I have really thick blood. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing, but my family has a history of heart disease/heart attacks, so would it be advisable for me to start ASA (asprin) therapy?

Ya, I guess you're right. Sorry bout that. I guess this question is kind of inappropriate for this site. My apologies.

Come on, we're specialized in recreational stuff, not this sort of question. You know well that only a doc can answer this question...

"Thick blood" ey, I'd have thought that the doctor who diagnosed that would have advised you on any treatment you need to be on. Aspirin "thins" the blood in a specific way (it blocks the activation of platelets) and isn't suitable for everyone. It can cause gastro-intestinal bleeding if taken regularly and I certainly wouldn't want to see someone start taking it regularly without discussing it with a doctor.

If you have a family history of heart attacks, the best thing you can do is exercise (as much as you can), eat healthily and when you get a bit older have your blood pressure and cholesterol checked regularly.

Go and see your doctor Doug :)
