Hello everyone.I'm getting kinda interested in psychedelics and i would want to try some. But there's a problem. The psychiatrist told me that my serotonin is lower than the avarage.Right now i'm on Zoloft medication.I feel mostly sad than happy.I don't find myself as a very stable person.I have bad trips on weed. So,i'm looking forward to your opinions on wether to try them or not,or how to stabilise myself and stuff like that.Thank you in advance.

As a very basic rule unstable people are not recommended to trip, I'm sorry. Some might argue that tripping can be therapeutic and turn your situation around. While that may be true there is also a very real chance that it will make everything that much worse, I definitely don't think I would risk that.

Zoloft also may reduce the effects of LSD (or other serotonergic psychedelics) but it is hard to predict by how much. It seems to vary quite a bit. To stop taking Zoloft (i.e. discontinuing psych medication) for a while in order to trip is another thing that is generally recommended against because it is extra destabilizing, see how that doubles up? Some people try to find a dose that is so high that it will overpower the medication but how does that not have bad news written all over it?

The only things I have heard about others I know on SSRIs say that psychedelics really made them lose grip too much and had non-specific / non-descript unpleasant side-effect.

How to stabilize? Well first the question is: why has your psychiatrist told you that about your serotonin levels? I take it he didn't measure them himself. It's associated with problems you seem to be having. Lower than average serotonin levels in the form of things like dysthemia are not really temporary, but on the other hand your depressed symptoms might only have a basis in something like identity issues, external factors that you can change and work on. Looking for those is your best path to getting stable.

My best friend has ADD and dysthemic symptoms and takes fluoxetine and mirtazepine. He used to trip with me with good results but meanwhile he kept having continuous mood issues and since he sought help he does not trip or take drugs anymore.

I hope this has cleared up a few things for you? What I tell you is just bits of info, I must disclaim: I do not presume to offer anything that substitutes for actual therapy. If you are from 1994 that means you are young, quite young enough to hold off and let things settle until you know where you are at. Your composure depends on how well you work on your issues and on how well you avoid things that destabilize you.

My advice is: better safe than sorry and wait a little while until you are at a point in life where you can more safely see where psychedelics take you. Plenty of time, don't worry!

Thank you very much for the advice. My problem is that before i was taking Zoloft,i had OCB and anxiety most of the time.I'm not quite stable right now, because i practically hate everything.I'm not at peace with myself.

Your last line should be enough to make your decision. Number one it is important to be comfortable and at peace with yourself. This is more of a factor than anything else you have talked about IMO.

tripping while out of sorts can certainly be a recipe for a bad time. I used to be on SSRI's myself, and rarely tripped while i was. I ultimately found that they did little for me other than make me feel generally apathetic about everything. And there is a bulk of scientific evidence that says they are little, if any, more effective than placebo.

How often do you see your psychiatrist? A lot of people that see psychiatrists see them once every month or two for little more than 20min, if that. This, IMO, isn't really enough to diagnose or treat anyone. I know this may be more expensive, but seeing a psychologist whom you actually talk with would probably be advisable. Also, never underestimate the effects that diet & exercise can have on low mood.

Sorry that isn't really tripping related advice, but once you've taken care of the mood issues you'd be much more likely to have an enjoyable trip ;)

Like others have said, I would stay away from tripping until you are more in order. However, if you are going to do it anyway, I'd recommend 2C-I because it is less of a mind fuck than a lot of other things. I have no idea how it would mix with your medication so look into that before you go down this route. However, you're best off staying away from psychedelics, and if you trip anyway, start with a low dose.

I really hope you can get back to us as Healthyboy94 man. ;)
No but seriously get yourself in check, and who knows maybe someday...
Personally I am getting therapy for PDD-NOS, basically the main part is mind over emotion defense mechanism but I am reconnecting again.

The absolute most important thing is to have faith again, not in a religious sense but a general trust that you can accept things as they are and put trust in your life / 'the universe' again. Surrender, break down your barriers, and come to realize that not everything will spin out of control. This is true for me I think, it really appears to be a major thing for me I can use.
You talking about OCD and anxiety makes me think it could be just as important for you.
