I want to start off by stating that the only reason I am posting and asking what you think is for harm reduction reasons only. I get hydro's 5/500 three times a day for the past 3 years and i have been on opiates since I was 12 (i am 22 now). I have a incurable illness that causes pain. I wanted to ask my doctor to put me on 45 norco 10/325 instead of 90 vicoden 5/500 because i feel that the tylonal maybe unhealthly for me over a long period of time (kidney failure). How should I suggest this to my doctor without sending up "red flags". I dont want to end up on ultram for trying to save my kidney.

dude, if you have been on pain medication for a decade, there should be no "red flags" raised. if you have a good relationship with your doctor in your situation more than likely he will write you whatever you want as long as you speak to him honestly and dont seem desperate. having that much acitometophen in your system for so long is not fucking good. at the very least you should ask him to put you on oxycodone hydrocholoride, er whatever the medicine is called that has oxycodone without any additives.

seriously, if you are telling the truth on here then there should be absolutely no problem asking your doctor about switching or adjusting meds. now if you went in there and were asked for some ridiculous hike in meds like asking for oxy 40s then i would imagine your doctor would know what you were upto.

Ima leave this here for now even tho we usually close threads like this here in DC. If anybody starts goin into anything even close to the sketchy line, about how to scam better drugs how to fool your doctor etc....its gonna get closed. Just help this guy and his liver please.

Most of the time we close any threads askin about doctors and how to get better meds but i feel like this one is as straight up as it could be so ima leave it for now. Just dont get into no shady junkie bizness in here yall and itll stay for now.

I agree with MemphisX3, if you've been getting these meds from the same doctor for ten years you must have a good relationship with him. Doctors are aware of the dangers of APAP and are also aware of opiate tolerance (or at least should be). Just be honest with your doctor and tell him your concern, it all probability he has the same concerns. :)

I'm inclined to agree with Memphis. If you don't act like a junky he won't see you as one. If your medical history doesn't make you look like a junky, he won't see you as one. Pretty straight forward.

I've been seeing my physician for nearly five years now and I know that when I talk to him about a med switch or something he is very receptive. He knows my past and I'm totally straight up with him about everything. Honesty in this case will more than likely get you where you want to be.

Itll be fine its not like your asking him to script fentanyl. Im suprised your dose hasnt increased or required the move to a stronger med with tolerance and all

^as a long term chronic pain patient myself you don't want to purposely force your tolerance upward. you want to stabilise and manage the pain on as little dose as possible.

you're not doing yourself any favours enforcing a huge load o' dependency on your own back.

to the op - the tylenol(apap) is the issue you have. that sounds like a pretty decent frame of reference to me.
