I was scared.
Scared you'd be like the others.
You smiled when you first saw me,
Let me right inside.
You cleaned your room just for me.
I laid down on your bed,
Exhausted.
Finally able to sleep.
Strangely comfortable.
You put your arms around me.
Immediate security.
You held me all evening,
Kissing,
Snuggling close.
We talked.
And talked.
Not a subject was untouched.
I felt that connection,
Looking into your eyes,
I saw heaven.
You brought your hand to mine,
Pulled my hand to my face,
Whispered softly
"Can you feel that?
Can't you see how beautiful you are?"
I melted.
You weren't like the rest.
You wanted me to be happy,
Not being selfish.
We walked in the park,
Hand in hand,
Stealing kisses in the dark.
Me?
Happy.
The smile never left my face.
You made me promise.
Promise never to forget how beautiful I am.
Tears came to my eyes as I nodded.
I'll never forget.
Never forget you.
