North Texas police: Arrested teacher used meth before classes

if this was about an athlete on steroids, everyone here would be calling them a cheater. Why does this teacher not get the same judgment?

There is a double-standard, but it is probably unfair to athletes, not teachers.
Nearly all people use caffeine to get through their days and perform better.
A huge percentage use alcohol to "perform" better while relaxing at night.
Essentially no one questions this.
If the teacher used prescribed drugs - even meth, as an earlier comment pointed out - to perform better no one would have questioned it.
If baseball players use HGH, they perform better. (For a while, though long-term they may suffer terrible effects.)
So it's the same thing? Caffeine and alcohol can lead to bad effects as well.
Would you prefer to permit athletes to use drugs?
Or regular people not to?

Teaching isn't a competition. There may be awards for it and such, but they're to encourage better teaching.

If someone is teaching well it is beneficial to the children being taught, so 'cheating' doesn't matter.

Sports are all about competing. So cheating obviously exists.

Although I'd be fine with all athletes getting roided up.

It's not just in the South. I went to school in Miami and plenty of people got paddled.

Meth is just such a dirty drug. I live in North Texas and it's everywhere as you go into the lower end of the neighborhood. I think this type of cynical judgement she is receiving is due to the fact that meth is used by some legitimately BAD people as a play toy, whereas in reality you are right, it is more similar to steroids as an advantage in this situation.

She obviously was not stupid or of low will-power,
Like I said, she just needed a prescription.

But now that she's without a job she'll probably continue to use meth and maybe turn into an actual tweaker instead of a functional user.

Although I'd be fine with all athletes getting roided up.

That's good, because just about anyone looking to go pro is probably going to be on juice. Lol.

There is a lot of Meth in that city, i use to live in the town next to it there's not shit to do out there so there are also a lot of younger individuals using drugs to escape being bored all the time. that town also has a huge pregnancy/STDs rate from what i remember from when i lived in the area.

What the fuck!? I didn't know they paddled students in the States.

I got my share in junior high lol.

"In-School-Suspension" sucked balls at my school. Stare at afucking wall all day, can't sleep or you get woken up and added days until they sent to a worse school you either wear ties or get arrested for "disrupting class" 8o

Half the time in ISS the teachers didn't bring you work; it was at their discretion. If your teacher hated you they just give you 0's while you're in there.

This was 2002. Wow I can't imagine schools nowadays

I got arrested in 2002 for disrupting class as a 12-year-old. True story. The judge was in on the scam too I heard. They make you kids do community service and pay fines/court costs for "talking excessively" or some shit.

Come to think of it, reminds me of the soviet union or nazi germany 8o

That's how it is in a lot of rural areas in the south, it seems. My state, TN, is one of the biggest states for meth, possibly the biggest.

I remember posting an article a long time ago about the cops in one town apparently simply didn't have the budget to continue constantly busting the labs.

Teachers who use drugs and speak to their class about 'don't do drugs' has been going on for a very, very long time. Many teachers smoke, many drink, many smoke and drink =D

Yes I know this is regarding a Schedule II recreational drug but still.

Exactly had this woman obtained an adult ADD perscription Desoxyn AKA dextro-methamphetamine, her use would have been fine and dandy
