I ride on the sidewalk, and usually don't pass even a single pedestrian on my way home, and don't even go terribly fast, so I feel quite safe riding while somewhat intoxicated. If I were really drunk, I would not ride (but I don't often get really drunk, tbh).
The situation in the Denver suburbs sounds really difficult.
I feel for people who have to designate a sober friend or take a taxi each time they want to go out.
But I still can't forgive drunk drivers....
Glad we agree on tougher penalties for drunk driving.
Maybe I was just taking issue with your wording, but it seems that we see pretty eye-to-eye on this.

I have a couple dui's from over five years ago that really messes my life up for a bit.. but I dont fault law enforcement on this one at all.. no reason to be driving drunk.. it is dangerous to others and ourselves and I would not be opposed to all cars having a device that prevents drunk drivers as long as the technology far surpasses whats available now and doesn't cause us all a huge pain in the ass.

It goes off randomly when you are driving and you have to blow then as well as being required to start the car.... if you dont blow or blow hot while driving some models will beep the horn and flash the lights.. It also logs all tests and you need to get it downloaded every two months.

I've had two friends who wrecked their cars because of that shit. One of them they wrecked his electrical system putting the damn thing in and the other one was in rush hour traffic on I-25 and it went off. He crashed right into the car in front of him trying to do the damn thing.
I think they're a terrible idea. Both of those friends were required to get them for probation for DUI though so I didn't really feel bad for them.

Do they actually mess with you if you are riding reasonably and have your lights? Here it is also illegal, but I rarely hear of people being controlled as if it were a car. The main thing to remember is if a drunk person is part of an accident they are usually given the full blame.
I did read the article, and it seemed they were forcing people with a road block made by cars with flashing lights into a parking lot in order to persuade them to participate with their study. That is not how science is supposed to be done...

Interlocks are a stupid idea, randomly going off distracting the driver, who will have to scramble to register a breath test in time, is just as dangerous as drink driving.
As for the testing, the least they could have done is inform the public that it was going to happen via news/social media.
You have like three or five minutes or so to breath into it so you can always pull over if you dont have the coordination to grab a little thing and blow into it.. if thats to hard for people to accomplish then they shouldn't drive at all IMO or at least drive and smoke a cigarette or answer the phone as that is more difficult.. This allows people who have had a few dui's to keep their license or get them back years early. I have had one in my car and the only problems I had with it was when it was cold and the fuckin thing basically froze and wouldnt work... yeah they have to fix that.

Drunk driving is one thing that I pray I never do again. Never got caught...no accidents, but I just feel so wrong risking others lives needlessly.

And as much as I hate cops, drunk driving interdiction is one of the few good things they do. If they were to stop, I guess some of us would have to do it ourselves, violently.
Our cause is a righteous one, but it ceases being righteous when we enable behavior that is dangerous to others.

Couldn't you just buy a mini-air pump and a balloon then have the balloon filled for the random shut downs. You could just put the balloon over the mouthpiece and it would blow clean. I probably shouldn't be giving you all ideas but meh.
Yeah they thought of that two.. when you blow you need to hum while you are doing it.. I guess you could maybe get something that has similar air pressure and one of the sex toy bullets.. but fuck usually people are so banged up after not having their license and all the legal shit that the last thing they want to do is drive drunk.. even though most people are not supposed to be drinking at all because of the court requirement you are allowed to blow up to a .02 and it just warns you.. its more there for when people get all ass drunk and their reasoning and logic is gone and they say fuck way to easy.. if someone is a pretty hard drinker then the biggest problem for people is in the morning when they need to get to work and they are still all kacked and need to go to drive to work.

I AGREE! BUt that doesn't mean the cops have a right to pull over people for doing nothing wrong at all and then intimidating them to give blood and saliva.. I guarantee if you were to give blood or saliva to those people and failed for any drug what so ever they would send you a ticket in the mail and/or come arrest you or arrest you right on the spot.

Same here. I got damn lucky and I won't ever push my luck again. One of my friends made a video of my drunk driving... Downtown Denver, leaving the club at 1:30 or so in the morning... I thought it was hysterical until I watched it while sober...
