Nootropics (piracetam etc) - mega merged

I'm 27 and find piracetam to be useful for concentration enhancement and mood stability.

You can definitely get a tolerance to it though, so I enjoy taking breaks for a few weeks and then re-starting the usage.

I think its considered a drug now and not a supplement.

I've wrote about great experiences with piracetam but to update I only enjoy it these days with caffeine.

I'd guess its still easy to obtain despite it being an official drug. Its just more expensive now.

do any certain foods have a lot of choline, so i may not have to go out and get a choline supplement? i have a bottle of piracetam but i don't want a headache or counterproductive effects. if i eat a fuckton of scrambled eggs will that work?

i never needed another supplement with my pira, just had my usual multi and cheap fish oil. works a charm. it never gave me negative side effects, except that first day i was a bit hyper. sometimes when i'm stressed my head feel like it's about to explode, but i've attributed that more to stress than the pira.

M C F:
I have purchased some bulk piracetam (man, hard to find these days in north america), and I'm going to get a pill making gizmo and some gelatin caps (under $20 as you had mentioned!). I'm not sure how much 800mg is, how big caps I need (00, 0, etc.). Would you recommend a digital scale for this, or is there a less expensive way to make sure I'm only getting 800mg per cap instead of more?

Choline is suprisingly easy to get in bulk or at the local health food store (as an FYI for those that are having troubles finding it). You may have a fishy BO if your body doesn't process it properly, if you do, I'm not sure how to counteract this.

PS not all companies in the US have been affected by the ban ;)

i ran out, and have since found some bloke in melbourne trying to offload ONE HUNDRED KILOGRAMS of it on ebay. pick up only. lol!

That's kinda silly. It will eventually run out all over because the company that patented it in 1970 is starting to sell it as a prescription in the US. I just checked ebay.com.au and no listings for it at all, just 2 books for sale :P

In fact, after checking global.ebay.com (funny though, that search at global.ebay.com doesn't turn up the two listings from the ebay.com.au site to show the two books that are listed there: all using the search term "piracetam"), it seems that the only piracetam available worldwide is in the US?! (maybe something wrong with ebays global website?) which is kinda funny because it's being squelched by the FDA. Not sure why though, if it's because of a conflict with the prescription or not?

the listing i saw was a couple of months ago. no shit, 100KG, for something like four grand.

this might sound like a stupid question, but how do you measure the dosage without a scale? like say i wanted 800 mg of the powder, how would i measure that?

find a liquid that it is soluble in and use volumetric measuring i suppose, good luck, add ten grams to liter of this fluid and each ml =10mg

Brain Supplements & Nootropics mega thread

The following are either antiapoptotic, synaptogenetic, neuroprotective (either directly or allosterically), upregulate endogenous neurotrophic factors, or directly stimulate the production of new neurons from stem cells. (and I'm sure they produce other effects, as well)

nerve growth factor

brain-derived neurotrophic factor

neurotrophin 1/2/3/4

pregnenolone sulfate, dhea

aromatase

estradiol via preg

testosterone

dihydrotestosterone

pheromones

long-term administration of NSAIDs

curcumin (also conduces to apoptosis in cancerous cells)

galanthamine

protein kinase M zeta

cyclic adenosine monophosphate responsive element binding protein (CREB)

cypin & tubulin

T-588

l-acetylcarnitine

l-creatine

l-theanine, egcg (green tea)

fluoxetine (and probably other SSRIs)

sodium valproate

AIT-082/Neotrofin

alcar

almitrine-raubasine

phosphatidylserine

phosphatidylcholine

docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)

weak cb2 receptor agonists

docosahexaenoic acid + cytidine diphosphate choline (citicoline) + uridine 5' monophosphate (UMP)

cytidine diphosphate choline (choline, acetylcholine precursors)

carbenoxolone

nimodipine (NIM)

cysteamine

cerebrolysin

hyperforin

erythropoietin

lithium

Idebenone

dimebolin hydrochloride

growth-associated protein 43 (GAP-43)

ghrelin

GVS-111 / Noopept / DVD-111

rolipram and other phosphodiesterase 4 inhibitors

ampakines (piracetam)

selegiline

rasagiline

hydergine (ergoloids, lsd)

5hta2/2c agonists (decrease bdnf in hippocampal area but raise other areas especially prefrontal cortex, 5hta2 antagonists only decrease bdnf by 30% so the formula is multi-neurotransmissional, hippocampal area is glutamine/dopamine/vasopressin)

desferal

VK-28

ketamine, ghb (most gabaergics decrease like alchohol)

moclobemide

royal jelly

glutathione (alpha lipoic acid- also regulates vit c and e)

vinpocetine

gotu kola

magnolia bark

MW01-5-188WH

nobiltin (citrus)

vitamin e

zinc

exercise

flavoniods, polyphenols, some sterols

omega 3 (modulation)

small dose stimulants

excitory environments (especially activating places where theres are alot of nerves, like the fingers, using opposite hand would increase plasticity between hemispheres, visual cortex, mostly the brain itself, etc)

caloric restriction (Perhaps because of the high levels of ghrelin and low levels of cholecystokinin associated with caloric restriction?, but sugar is good for mitochondria)

so, bdnf is the main culprit for neurogenesis/synaptogenesis, but igf-1 is really the culprit of stem cell differentiation. stem cells run out eventually some earlier than others, but the dendritic connections only decrease when there aren't enough things stimulating, oxidation, other stuff. stem cells could also come in from bone marrow up the spine. of course taking lower level stuff, the body is alot like a computer, is more universal, but also more dangerous. its better to have some only neuroprotective compounds instead of all bdnf stimulation. usually, compounds will have several level feedbacks, specific brain regions and neurotransmissions. more things have some of these features, but they ultimately come out to be negative. gaba increases hgh, but decreases excitation. cannabis and synthetic cannabinoids are excitory and bdnf stimulatory via cb2 receptors, but hippocampal apoptotic, so the effect is more recyclability without memory writing. basil and oregano are cb2 agonists, but marginal in their popular dosage. so there is multiple cases of combinatory effects, and a sense of safe significance so far with these compounds. it should be dependent on what someone had before and what they are going for, some people are acetylcholergenic, math people, while others are more emotionally expressive. taking alot of bdnf compounds would also increase the chances of brain cancer, so it is good to spread out, and only take low doses to optimize content. someone doesn't want to have high neurogenesis at times of content emptiness. everything is dose dependent, and some of them have a point where it reverses. the point of this project is to map out alot of the possible brain nutrients that someone might run in to. there is also a class named "nootropics" which are specifically a group for learning enhancement that don't necessarily directly do these three functions, but definitely do excite. alot of them are in here, one of them is modafinil, it does induce acytlcholergic activity etc, upregulation of these kinds of compounds in general is beneficial, research its contradiactions before taking.

list started from an archive on this site http://www.bluelight.ru/vb/archive/index.php/t-413261.html, make sure to do research because neuropharmacology is always incomplete especially from the perspective of a person. the rule is that isolated synthetics are stronger, but sometimes plants will be alot stronger. usually plants have less side effects. alot of the time the functions will go out into the close class of compounds, and into their proper endoconversion. something like 5htp on the synapse has different effects than a more complex or foreign molecule, or even a simpler endogenous molecule.

I think this is more appropriate for the healthy living forum so we'll try it out over there.

I don't think it's banned, I just bought a ''bath salt'' the other day and piracetam was listed on the side as an ingredient. I think the shop I bought it from didn't realize that it wasn't actually a 'bath salt.' That shit was terrible.

Pre-emptive: yes i know bath salts are terrible and no one knows whats in them and they're dangerous. But even as far as bathsalts go that one sucked.

I love piracetam, one of most underestimated things ever! I found that my sweet dose is 2400mg piracetam + 3600mg lecithin. If I do more i feel strange, not very good

I can vouch for Piracetam being very good stuff indeed.

I've only been doing it for a few days, 1600 mg in the morning and 800 mg in the afternoon. Very much a non-placebo affect - felt more alert, and found I was able to concentrate on things, and it really helps with social anxiety - felt it much easier to chat with people than normal. I have, however, been taking a fair amount of caffeine at the same time, but could definitely feel the effect of the Piracetam, far more clear headed. Memory recall seems to be a little enhanced too.

I will be probably doing 3 x 800 mg daily, in morning, lunchtime and afternoon for cognitive enhancements. I did experiment with higher dose and it caused some mental clouding.

Another thing it did was potentiate MDMA quite wildly. I found that the intensity of the rush was more profound than i've felt in years. I'm on a low dose SSRI (though had abstained taking it for a few days - probably not recommended, but fine in my case, as I know my body - and this doesn't cause me any problems), and had taken some last weekend, and was one of the best rushes ever. Had a +4 moment (as it were) when I saw Ferry Corsten in Leeds last night. However, it did not extend the duration of the high, but that could be due to the SSRI and/or tolerance due to use last weekend.

I'm looking forward to seeing what this material can do, by using it long term, but am pretty impressed so far. Its effects on social anxiety are a bonus - wasn't expecting it to affect that...

does anyone know if it's possible to purchase piracetam in a store, and not online?
i live with my parents, and they would get suspicious if i ordered it to the house.

^^It's not like they have anything to be suspicious about. I take piracetam in front of my folks all of the time. I keep it on top of the fridge, too.
