Just wondering, don't know if this question is allowed or not, i think it is though.... Is Mercyndol the strongest painkiller that u can buy over the counter without a prescription?
I use it for migranes i get, is there anything stronger that doesn't require a prescription?
Thanks for your help ;)

Depends on your defintion of "strongest". Mersyndol has paracetamol 450mg, codeine 9.75mg and doxylamine succinate 5mg (a sedating antihistamine). So it is possible the one that will make you feel the most effected due to the anti-histamine, which doesn't relive pain, just makes you a bit less aware of it.
Nurofen Plus has ibuprofen 200mg and codeine 12.8mg. so it has more codeine than Mersyndol.
Fiorinal Dental has paracetamol 500mg, codeine 10mg and doxylamine succinate 2mg. There are also various chemists brands with similar ingredients.
If you have migraine I suggest you talk to your Dr. Other treatments like asprin (600 - 900mg), metaclopramide, ergotamine etc are also effective. There are also drugs that are more effective then painkillers at halting severe migraine like the triptans, although they are expensive.

i didnt think u could get anything over the counter with codeine in it without a prescription ?cos here u cant get panadeine forte over counter at chemist ,correct me if im wrong(adel bye the way)i know u definatly cant in any way get mersondl forte over counter lol

There is Mercyndol Forte? Hmmmmm.... yeah i just wanted to see what medicines that knock ya out you can get over the counter.... looks like Mercyndol is the only one! :\

Theres a legal OTC limit for codeine, the 'Forte' versions of both those brands exceed it (I believe its something like 12.5mg - do not quote me on this).
Panadeine should be available OTC.

Mersyndol Forte is available by prescription only. They're exactly the same as normal mersyndol in every sense except that they have 30mg of codeine.
The thing that gives you the drowsy efect in mersyndol is the doxalamine succinate - which is also found in "Restavit" (you can get that over the counter, but you have to ask them for it - it's not on the shelf). Each Restavit contains 25mg of doxalamine succinate whereas a mersyndol only contains about 5mg each, so if you take two normal mersyndol and one restavit it will boost the drowsy effect quite a bit.
It might be presumptious to assume that these will be used after a speed weekend, but if that's the case then I've found a mersyndol/restavit combo to be quite effective... :)

and how can they sell mersondol over counter anyway if its got these drousy drugs in them seems rather silly.and how do i edit my posts?

Dunno if it helps, but I am holding in my hot little hands a bottle labelled only 'Pain Tablets' manufactured by stephen hunter pty ltd, which contain Codeine phosphate 10mg and paracetemol 500mg. My friend bought them (in Adelaide) without a prescription.

Pain tablets are virtually the same as panadiene, just a pharmacy brand. The difference is panadiene contain 2mg less of codeine phosphate.
