I'm on the hunt for books on the Australian drug-scene generally, but more specifically to do with Cannabis. Before the internet happened I bought a lot of books on Cannabis history and cultivation from overseas. I'd scan the High Times magazine book reviews and every few months a plain brown package would arrive with all the latest from America. I read Bill Drake and got a grass-roots feel for what was going on, was inspired by Lawrence Cherniak's wild photography in The Great Books..., and Connell-Clarke and Rosenthal for a botanical foundation to work from. All really useful and stimulating, but talking about Cannabis culture in the US and rest of the world. In all respects Australia never rated a mention. At the time our contributions to the topic was a couple of dinky cultivation guides with shit photos and shitter advice, and JJ McRoach's excellent A Dozen Dopey Yarns. All this was nearly 50 years ago and I haven't seen another title in that time written about the Australian experience. If I'm wrong, please tell me so. We have decades of growing under the radar so imagine the stories that could be told. That would be a history I'd pay good money to read.
