I took Ritalin daily for several years and always used caffeine in conjunction. I could have several energy drinks a day and it never bothered me while I was taking Ritalin. 2 months ago I stopped taking Ritalin and now whenever I try to drink an energy drink I end up with shaking hands, dizzy, and nauseous. What gives? Why am I having this sudden sensitivity to caffeine where I before I could drink as much as I wanted? Ideas on how to make it go away?

Interesting, i have a theory. Your body has learned to associate the steadying effects of methylphenidate with that of caffeine. Now when you ingest caffeine your body isn't used to having to deal with the negative side effects of caffeine which the methylphenidate previously took care of.

If the above theory is true then it should get better the more caffeine you ingest. Continue drinking coffee every morning like you did while on the methylphenidate and your body should learn to cope with the negative side effects of the caffeine accordingly. Hope this helps.

Did you taper?
Sounds weird

@JT - How did the Methylphenidate help ease the caffeine side effects? If it simply overwhelmed it, I'd be surprised he continued with the Ritalin for a number of years before quitting, since the drug itself is making my hands shakier than any double espresso I had...

Yes I tapered. My body is acting so weird now. I have a cold and took some Sudafed which induced a light panic attack. It's like my body doesn't want anything to do with any type of stimulant.

Be careful. A similar thing happened to me years ago. I was using heroin and coke, and then sometimes some extra coke, lol. One day i did my normal hit of coke (same batch id been doing for days) and my heart went CRAZY. I came very close to ODing. This is, again, off a normal size hit of stuff I'd been doing for days.

At the time, i convinced myself maybe it WAS the batch. I copped some different stuff, did a tiny tiny bit, and my heart started racing.

Then that night i had a coke (a cola) and it sped up too, but not as bad.

Sudden stimulant sensitivity is a thing. It can happen anytime. Your body is saying "k, enough stims for us, homie". I havent used a stim since.
