Nitrazepam was the first benzodiazepine I have ever used and it remains a favourite of mine. I placed an order through an Indian site and received 100 10mg tablets 15 days later. I had chosen nitrazepam because according to wikipedia it is a potent hypnotic and therefore shortens the amount of time required to fall asleep. The pills are around the size of a paracetamol tablet, white and have a breakline on one side. The other side has 10 imprinted on it as well as two curved lines that look like closed eyes above the 10. They don't really taste of much and so can easily be used sublingually but they make my tongue and lips feel a little numb - perhaps I'll keep some handy for toothache.
The first time I used it I cut the tablet in half and just took 5mg as that is the size of a UK tablet of it and I didn't want to sleep for too long. At this point I was planning on using it simply to help establish a regular sleep pattern rather than to get high as downers generally hadn't appealed to me. After a month my intention was to cease use entirely for the following month but on my first night I discovered its fun side effects.
A few minutes after swallowing the half pill I realised I didn't have enough milk for breakfast and decided I was capable of taking a five minute walk to a local shop that stays open until midnight. I rushed off and had no problems getting there but the effects started kicking in whilst I was in the store. I had no problems shopping but made a mistake counting the money and almost walked off without my shopping. I noticed I was walking slightly differently and that the orange street lights seemed particularly intense and beautiful, I became entranced by the way the light reflected off of cars and the red glare of the tail lights. It was a bit like a photo that has been left to exposed so the lights would run into each other. At this point I began wondering if the drugs actually contained something else instead of or as well as the nitrazepam but I didn't seem to care.
Then I noticed the sounds. It was so quiet and then a car would rumble past. I felt it. Everything seemed slowed down. I felt like I was moving more slowly than usual. A man passed me on a bicycle at a very slow pace. I turned into my street and heard the twinkling of a neighbours wind chimes, they seemed to glitter even though I could only hear them. Everything seemed so beautiful that I didn't want to go to bed. I wanted to touch the walls and experience their texture. I forced myself to get ready and get in. I felt extremely comfortable just lying there in the dark, rubbing the wardrobe or my skin. Eventually I became more drowsy and fell asleep on my stomach. I was in the same position when I woke up. I felt relaxed but didn't get a hangover. I slept for about nine and a half hours.
A small percentage of the population experience synesthesia, the commingling of senses, without having to take psychedelics. I'm one of those people, I see colours and occasionally pictures in my head when hearing sounds, its a bit like imagery from a novel in my case. I've been this way since childhood and its not all that uncommon. So I may have been affected atypically by the nitrazepam. It was extremely pleasurable though.
Over the following four weeks I took it nightly and developed tolerance. By the end of the four weeks I needed 30mg to get the psychedelic types of effect (I don't have access to good quality weed, just nasty black gunk that smells like solvents.) Higher doses made me more clumsy too. Each time I had a pleasurable experience though. Recently I've tried a fair few other benzo's (ok so just the easy to get ones but I've never seen stuff like ketazolam)but the only other one I really like is clonazepam. These are the only two I've found to be euphoric.
Whilst taking the nitrazepam I was often content just to lay in bed and I've lost a few days to this but its a lot more pleasurable than watching some dodgy local band, getting drunk and hungover. I didn't notice any negative effects on my memory but I was more prone to making mistakes. I did manage to regulate my sleep pattern but once I'd stopped taking the nitrazepam I soon reverted to only waking when I had to. I slept very heavily on nitrazepam and would sleep through someone knocking or my alarm going off.
Since then I've used it recreationally from time to time. Its always been pleasurable even when I've taken large doses - in these cases I'd often nod off and wake up in the exact same position.
