I stepped out into the cool, but not cold night air. It's September, and the air should be chilly, my breath should be visible. But it's not. It's not a normal September by any means.
I skip down the deck stairs, hitting the garbage bag on the railing. I can hear the bottles clinking within. Snapple or Kokanee beer bottles, one of the two.
I crunch over some fallen leaves, and smell that earthy smell fall has. It's a little damp, and there is moisture on the tree branch when I hit it. I crush crab apples and mountain ash berries with my boots. Have to remember not to walk in the house with those later.
I look up and am dazzled by the stars. They seem so bright for in the city. I throw the garbage bag over the fence, and stare at the stars. The automatic sensor light lighting my path to the back lane goes out. Still I stand there, awestruck.
The screen door opens and my mom calls me. My wonder is broken, and I whip my head around, smile, and run back to the house.
Taking out the garbage is more interesting on some nights than others.

Thank you. It means a lot. There are a few people I read on here religiously, and you are one of them. :-)
