I stopped a heavy opiate habit a bit over a year ago. The addict in me needed something as a pacifier and decided to take up smoking for the first time in my life. This made me feel more guilty than my opiate addiction in many ways, as with all the chemicals I had experimented with and at times became addicted to, I had managed to avoid nicotine completely. I soon developed a pack daily habit.
After about six months, I noticed the physical effects had manifested and all the pleasure I obtained when I began smoking ceased. I began to realize increasingly that smoking cigarettes is like beating myself repeatedly. There was just no up side. I decided that I would quit. I could have quit cold turkey, as I quit my opiate addiction that way and knew that it would not be anywhere near as difficult, yet I just did not want to deal with the cravings.
I first tried 4mg nicotine gum, 6x daily. The gum is not pleasant tasting and causes an unpleasant chemical like burning in my throat. I also do not like the effects, which are increased heart rate and stomach discomfort.
I decided to buy an e-cigarette. I immediately enjoyed the experience. They taste decent (the "tobacco" flavor tastes like pipe tobacco and coffee). I dig how I can puff away in public places. Also, the relief I obtain from the e-cig is quite similar to that of smoking.
In conclusion, after a week of not smoking anything, I can say with certainty that I will never smoke another cigarette. I believe this is a great option for those looking to stop smoking because it utilizes the same ROA. My throat and lungs feel great. I am breathing better, my sense of smell has increased, and I am happy that I am not pumping carcinogens into my system anymore. My only concern is that I feel that I may now be addicted to this instead of cigarettes, but I am not too worried about it. If anyone is looking to quit smoking, I suggest trying an e-cig. They still contain nicotine, which is slightly damaging, but not nearly as harmful as real cigarettes are.
Peace,
Jackie
