Hello all, I have a few unanswered questions regarding this topic and I have been searching for hours with no luck at all. First things first, I've had a few major family health issues leading me to some major anxiety/depression problems in the past year and it just keeps getting worse, but that's enough of that. I had a buddy let me bum a few xans from him since my doc wouldn't prescribe them to me due to my age. I was curious about the half life being that I am just paranoid about how long things stay in my system. (No this is not a will i pass a test question) but I read that nicotin makes a bi-product when smoked that can cut the halflife of xanax by %50. It was in large medical terms so there is a possibility that I misread that information but i am curious as to if this is true and would like someone with more knowledge to possibly inform me in layman's terms about topic. If I can refind the link that I read I will post it up for you all to read. I kinda want it out of my system just for the fact that it makes me feel dysphoria compared to klonopin which I know has a mega long half life but the study specified it only works for xanax. Any input would be appreciated. I'll try to find the link

Just don't take more and wait it out, it will leave pretty quickly. I have heard of that nicotine study as well, smoke some cigs if you want it won't help that much. Drink lots of liquids.. pomegranate juice etc.

I heard liquids don't get rid of benzos in your system such as opiates which can be flushed, due to benzos being stored in fat cells like THC. Im not super worried about it being in my system but I found it to be an interesting topic and was wanting to start a thread that can help others with more accurate information unlike the very few that I found with piss poor information.

I don't guess many have researched this topic lol I figured this would be the forum board to go to for answers/information

It isn't the nicotine that does this, it's the hydrocarbons which are a by-product of burning tobacco. Chewing tobacco or vape pens won't shorten alprazolams half life. Also, tobacco hydrocarbons will reduce the half life of most if not all benzos, not just alprazolam.

yeah from my own exp when i vape on my e cig and take xanax i get about an hour max and thats all she wrote
when not vaping i get about 2 hours and it sorta lingers on for a few hrs
i do feel an extra mini rush when i take xanax while vaping but def comes and goes quickly
i tested that theory out about 10 times and results are always the same

might be a placebo effect for me then not sure

A thread I posted a while back may be of some help, a few studies were broken down in simple terms. From what I gleaned in not only the studies in the post but a few others as well it seems that tobacco smoke not only increases clearance by 100% (your body expels the drug from your system 100% faster) but it can also acutely make your dose 50% less effective.

Obviously any lingering effects should be pretty much gone by now but I guess it still helps to have a layman idea of what's going on if you ever find yourself in this situation in the future, which from the sounds of it seems unlikely being that you find alprazolam unpleasant.

hmmm interesting ^^^ maybe i dont feel it as much after vaping
as nic is also a stimulant ?

^ Yeah that could be. I threw a dip in one time cause that's all that was around, and I felt like it took my high down a bit.

Thanks for the info. I'll check it out, I just wish my doc would consider prescribing me kpins. SSRI's don't do anything besides make me feel weird. Insomnia has been kicking my ass for months now. Its interesting that you said it increases clearance by 100% that's a lot faster than I expected.

Smoking can induce some liver enzymes i think which speeds up the elimination of certain benzos. In a old medical text book i have laying around somewhere it lists pharmaceutical drugs that can be effected by Tobacco and both Valium and Librium (Chlordiazepoxide) are listed there. Granted this book is from the 70's i think and Valium and Librium where about the only benzos in real wide use back then. I have had a few doctors tell me to quit smoking because with the amount of cigarettes i smoke at times they said my liver would be spitting out certain meds i was on including Clonazepam much faster then normal.

As for treating insomnia both Clonazepam and Alprazolam are very poor choices in my opinion as they don't have much in the way of sedative effects. Temazepam, Nitrazepam or even Valium would be better options as far as benzos go. Z hypnotics such as Zopiclone and Zolpidem also work well for some people. Though with Z drugs (or atleast Zopiclone the only one i have tried besides the shitty and now off the market here Zaleplon) tolerance builds very quickly as in a manner of days. But i found that using it for 3 nights then taking atleast a 3 day break was a good way to retain effectiveness.
