Consumers using a range of herbal supplements are being warned to stop taking the products immediately.

The Ministry of Health has ordered a recall of three Herbs Health products after they were found to illegally contain prescription medicines.

It says Joint Plus, S.E.N Plus and Multistress capsules are sold as 100 percent herbal, yet contain traces of prescription-only drugs, not included in the labelling.

Ministry spokesman Derek Fitzgerald says of particular concern is Multistress, which contains a potent steroid.

He says long term use could lead to skin damage, acne, diabetes and weight gain.

He says anyone taking Multistress should consult their doctor.

Thats pretty interesting that they have been slipping prescription steriods in these OTC pills, its sort of like drink spiking. I wonder if this is a widespread issue.

Sounds as if the NZ 'herbal highs' industry might be in for a shake up. New Zealand week (sky TV Aus.) last Friday did a segment on BZP and TFMPP type party drugs, where a doctor monitored the BP and other vitals of a group who took the drugs in a semi-controlled environment.

Most of the participants were off their faces. That would have no doubt raised a few eyebrows despite the doctor involved basically giving the drugs the all clear. Unless the government now intends to ban the products, it would have been a damn good plug for the company/s.

Thanks for the link BZP TFMPP

There is going to be a shake up - but not a major one. Now that the govt has decided to operate their drug policy on the evidence (to a certain extent), the evidence to ban bzp and tfmpp simply does not exist.
We're likely to see restrictions on advertising and the sale of it (ie, R18 only and not from convenience stores where kids can see it and buy it), as well as requirements for labelling.
That TV piece you refer to was a bunch of arse and has some the experts quite worried about the portrayal of it (I work in the drug policy field). It showed a bunch of people drinking quite heavily without making any mention of the fact that alcohol does not mix at all positively with these substances. Which is why labelling is needed, and will likely be required.
What will NOT happen is these products being banned.
You can find the TVNZ article here... (2nd item)
Party Pills - Are They Dangerous?

There's a few things just around the corner that will rock your socks off - I've had a few 'product testers' that are rather amazing. Watch this space...

There are a few good ones coming out at the moment ,,,
the older brands are just too weak .. but one brand I had recently was perfect. Peaked hard like a good e would

All the information you need is on Erowid, you've been here long enough to know that.

Well there's certainly more stuff on BZP at Erowid than I'd realized, but the news video Bostonsox linked to is still worth having a look at IMO. I couldn't find it via Erowid piperazine pages.
