V's ice antics off note
October 11, 2007 12:00am

A MUSIC video show asking its audience to SMS their "favourite memories on ice" has outraged viewers after airing responses from drug users about their experiences on the drug.

Viewer responses detailing their favourite memories while on crystal methamphetamine included "Everything's great on meth!" and "Lots of sex" and "Too many to name" were scrolled across the screen during Foxtel music station Channel V's what U want video show on Saturday morning.

The station this week blamed the tasteless messages on a failed "process" which would usually moderate SMS responses going to air, reported media writer Fiona Connolly.

It said the question posed was not about drugs but about ice-skating - having aired following a clip of Will Ferrell's skating movie Blades of Glory.

However, the network could not explain why the drug-related responses were broadcast to its teen audience.

"Fair enough the question was supposed to be about ice-skating, but someone's obviously being mischievous in the way they posed the question and then put all those responses up," viewer Shelly Hanson said yesterday. "I'm a mother and a teacher and I was appalled to turn on the TV to see such irresponsible behaviour from a show that attracts teenagers - Channel V should be ashamed of themselves."

The station said the show had a MA classification which was clearly aired prior to the show.

"Channel V in no way endorses the use of drugs and in fact it is currently in development on an educational series for a youth audience on the drug ice," Foxtel's general manager of music channels Tara King said in a statement yesterday.

i swear i saw this episode ages ago, in june or something, its taken a while for the news to catch on. i thought it was a bit weird their (channel v's) wording of the topic and expected to see those kind of responses in the sms feedback thing.

Oh jesus.. I wish I had known about this!!!!!
Would of been lots of fun!

I think that is disgusting of channel V to put rubbish like that on the screen.

I've put drug messages on channel [V] before.. The trick is to wait for late night voting, and vote a really shit song that is popular. Have a girls name as your V profile and a girls picture, then like write the message like I LUV U CHARLIE, DONT EVER FORGET ME *SNIFF* *SNIFF* YOU'VE LEFT MY FACE AND BODY FEELING NUMB or something equally lame. Ive gotten channel ten big brother up late to read out emails before years ago that had words in it they'll be puzzled about like whatshername is just being bitchy because shes PMSing what she needs to do is keep quiet and be DMTing.. yeah i have no life. buit was funny to hear that dickhead read out DMT on television not knowing what it was
