NEWS: Industry revolts as federal health agency proposes ban on discount booze

+ 1 for Peroni...Stella is good too though not as strong

doesnt vb & crown come from the same brew process/vat? i heard crown was the liquid from the surface while vb was the scummy stuff at the bottom? they are both ordinary imo...people that drink crown usually wear suit & ties, while people that drink vb wear overalls and work boots

I have heard these kind of claims for years as well. Are these things actually true? Is that how it works with beer?

Otherwise it sounds like a good way to slander a brand/beer you don't like.

I've also heard that but never had it verified. I heard it was the top 10% making it the crown part of the beer.

And yeah you have good taste laugh, I like Stella as well =D

its all a marketing ploy...at least they come up with some funny adverts.
you just gotta look at the branding and packaging, the best thing about crown is the name and the shiny gold sticker haha

I think I heard or got told that same story but from the fosters vat, dont know how accurate that is tho. It's funny how fosters used to be kind of popular here ages ago (I think?) now no one seems to drink it, don't know if they even sell it here anymore, i've never noticed it, and the English seem to love it, apparently it's really popular in the UK.

I like Becs and a heap of other Euro beers too, but buying them too much is a waste of money, too expensive. Beer in general is too expensive now, i try and go without for a few weeks then i'll buy a case of whatever is decent value.

I don't really mind crown, i'd probably prefer that than vb i think.

You are right Fosters is big in the UK, I was just there and it is hilarious the advertising slogan for it is "Australian chic", I made sure to tell as many people as possible that we don't really drink the shite here. For some reason it is only 4% there also, but a lot of beers there seem weaker than they are here for some reason, Carlsberg is 3.8% for example. The price is right compared to here though, and you still can find 5% beers you just can't assume that a given brand will be the same strength it is in Australia. Stella is still 5% so that is always a safe bet at the pub where they don't list %.

I have to agree that European beer (especially German), generally speaking, shits on Australian beer. There are quite a few reasonably priced imports and I would rather pay a few dollars more for something that is actually enjoyable to drink. Personally I don't mind a number of South East Asian beers either, Beer Lao springs to mind as quite a good one, although it is relatively expensive.

if this goes to plan, the first thing Im gonna do is distill a fuck tonne of moonshine/whiskey/whatever there's demand for and flog it off for next to nothing (cost of production maybe) whilst making it all as obvious to the media, local+federal politicians/agencies, the public, local business's, anyone that might be affect if this were to pass (to the point I can still remain anonymous and out of trouble) sheerly as an act of rebellion and protest.. (fuck, I dont even drink spirits [let alone homemade ones] but I know plenty of people that do and will..)

hey it worked during prohibition, why wouldnt it now? can anyone else thing of a more effective way to let our government know that continually raising tax's on alcohol wont solve any of their (our) problems?

^ whilst starting a moonshine fueled riot may do the trick, I don't think it entirely fits in with our harm reduciong aims. 8)

No way vb is average as, australia makes some of the best beer in the world I think but the cheap and popular stuff is piss water, like all consumer beer around the world it all tastes pretty much the same to cater for the masses. Coopers make nice popular beer and the smaller and microbreweries make amazing beer, way better than most nz beer I have to say. New Zealand's popular beer which I would alike to tooheys, vb, xxxx etc but worse is shockingly bad, really sweet and devoid of any flavour or character, honestly it's so bad it's almost undrinkable. But damn its cheap, we used to drink $8 dozens when i left high school. Theres a cheap beer in nz called 'Viking' and the slogan on the front of every can is 'conquer the taste', no kidding haha. Stuff like rogers, little creatures and most of the microbrewery beer here is really good but it's so flavourful that it's hard to drink more than 3 or 4 at a time, that's when the nicer end of the more standard beer like boags and coopers are good to have around. Vb, xxxx, tooheys are terrible in my opinion, so bland and processed and chemically tasting.

And a lot of Aussie wine is incredible, provided it doesn't come in a shiny silver bag.

My favourite Aussie beers are VB, tooheys new, coopers pale ale. I don't
Mind the odd boutique beer made in aus but as said above they are abut heavy on the flavour. My favourite foreign beers are miller draught, Kokanee, becks and Heineken but they have to be the proper imports not the shit that's canned/ brewed here. I'm not really a big drinker anyway I don't mind a few but I absolutely hate being drunk, I will admit I can't handle it. Much prefer to be high as a kite
