NEWS - Ecstacy )MdMa) on OPRAH!

Pihkal/ Tihkal are ~$26 on Book Depository :) They're also at Polyester Books on Brunswick St, but at the $40 mark I think. $26 including shipping is pretty decent, and probably a worthwhile investment.

Hm, I've always wondered about people with AS and how they learn to read faces. I know a few people with it, but I've never really wanted to ask them. Does it feel robotic? Like the processing of the input? and how long does it take to register/ react to expressions? Also, there's a thread on AS and MDMA.

In terms of RCs, there are legit suppliers and total dodgy ones out there. Google can actually be rather helpful to work out which ones are legit or not. Google's pretty helpful with find out out a lot of legit/non-legit things on the net. Acai berries and oolong tea? please, we're not dumb!

Thank you for telling me where to buy Pihkal/Tihkal. I thought that the books were illegal in Australia?! I'm guessing that Polyester Books would be selling them discreetly.

Having Aspergers or any Autism Spectrum Disorder, the brain is wired so it sees all the details instead of the big picture. I read a neurology paper in the past (can't remember the damn title) which showed that for people with an ASD, the connections in certain parts of the brain is affected, especially the Prefrontal cortex, so the brain acts with reduced Prefrontal cortex activity, even though it may be a normal size. So in a sense, there are a few similarities between Aspergers and ADHD.

The prefrontal cortex is involved in higher level processes called executive functions, so this would include: multitasking, working memory, seeing the big picture. People with an ASD supposedly have less of these executive functions, which causes them to see details first instead of the big picture. They have to manually connect the dots robotically in order to figure it out. This is how I process facial expressions and body language, it feel mechanical and mentally exhausting. This is why many people on the Autism Spectrum find socializing with non-Autistic people difficult, because they have to spend so much mental energy analyzing an alternate way of communication. They much prefer straightforward verbal/written communication with no hidden meanings.

I also have a bad short term memory and I'm quite bad at multitasking. The only way I could ever get any work done was by "hyperfocusing" on stuff one at a time. If I didn't have my hyperfocus ability and my above-average IQ, I would've done much worse in school.

Oh I wish MAPS could have permission to conduct a trial of MDMA on Aspergers people, I'd be extremely interested in seeing the official results.

They are both apparently banned, Shulgin talks about it in TiHKAL actually. It's hard to find information about it though, I almost want to email the Office of Film and Literature Classification and ask for details and a list of banned texts.

Although they are banned, I got both of them for Christmas and they were bought online and shipped in no problems.

Also Polyester Books has been in trouble for selling banned literature before apparently.

Thanks for talking about this, I've wondered for a while what it is like to have an ASD; especially towards the Asperger's end of the scale.

Have you used MDMA before?

Never have, that's why I said I really want it. But given the current supply of true MDMA in Melbourne, I'll probably never experience it. Methylone would be my alternative, but concerned about getting caught by customs/police if I order 2 grams from a certain site.

I'm not sure about the status of Pihkal/Tihkal in Australia. There's a few copies on the shelves at Polyester though, you don't need to do some sort of wink/ handshake at the counter :) As for importing them... I think books are pretty low on custom's priorities. I've never had packages containing books opened, but usually my squishy t-shirt packages are ripped (and that may have been American customs) when I get them. I ordered Tihkal off Book Depository last week, I'll let you know if there are any issues.

Also. There's a site where you can read all the banned books in Australia. My browser has crapped itself and every tab that wasn't already open is broken or I'd find it. I've read a book on there called "E" or something similar. I have no idea why it was banned, from what I remember it wasn't even a cookbook.

AS sounds like bottom-up processing in a world where everyone else runs on top-down. Can connecting the dots become easier with practice? Can you get it to the efficiency of... playing a video game for example? Even still, going by my high school experience, there will always be immature dickheads out there trying to fuck with you. I was nice to the AS kids, but it was pretty damn hard to be honest.

It's definitely bottom-up processing, top-down processing is part of Executive function, which is what I lack in. I have to practice connecting the dots all the time, so hopefully the skill will improve over the years, but it's still tiring. I find it really hard to maintain contact with people coz I'm often stressed out with other things.

Yes some people will always be immature dickheads or intolerant assholes, including the adult and working world. I take part in an ASD forum that discusses ways to strategically counter these bullies.

Can I ask why it was hard for you to be nice to the AS kids? Were the AS kids at your high school the type that did "annoying" things to other people without realizing it? Or were they the really quiet introverted types?
