THE Federal Government should consider putting health warnings on alcoholic drinks, the Australian Democrats said today.
Senator Lyn Allison said a 2001 Australian Institute of Health and Welfare survey found many Australians did not know what safe drinking levels were.
"More than half of males and two-thirds of females drinking at risky levels overestimated how many drinks could safely be consumed in a six-hour period before putting their health at risk," she said.
Senator Allison said the Government needed to look at ways of educating the public about safe drinking levels.
"Explicit labelling similar to that existing on cigarette packaging is one way of making sure that the community has the correct information it needs to make decisions about whether they really want that extra drink."
Good, it's about time. Not sure how much direct impact it will have, but it sure isn't a BAD idea
*EDIT* I know that in America they have warnings on the bottle. About pregnancy and liver disease etc.
What is strange is that they don't display the alcohol % on beer
