23-year-old Sydney woman found dead at Dragon Dreaming music festival

A 23-year-old Sydney woman has died over the weekend at a music festival that local police tried to stop going ahead.

The young woman was found dead on Sunday morning at 5.30am on the grounds of the Dragon Dreaming Festival in Wee Jasper near Lake Burrinjuck, about 50km south west from Yass.

On-site medical personnel performed CPR but were unable to revive her, police said.

The woman and a group of friends joined fellow revellers for the four-day music festival held on farmland about a three-and-a-half hour drive from her home in Berala in Sydney's west.

Police were told that the woman had complained to her friends that she was not feeling well on Saturday.

Although the cause of her death is unknown, local police said they made 78 drug detections at the festival over the course of the weekend, and confirmed the woman did not suffer from any medical conditions.

"It is tragic that a young life has been lost and that a family is mourning the life of their daughter," said Superintendent Zoran Dzevlan.

"I didn't want this event to happen in the first place," Superintendent Dzevlan said.

"We put our objections forward to council and as a result of these drug detections, and the tragic death of a young lady, we will again be putting our recommendations forward for this event not to take place in our community," he said.

Police also executed 20 positive random drug tests among festival goers leaving the event on Sunday and charged three people with supply.

"Once the police have obtained all their statistics from the weekend they will be putting a recommendation to the council not to approve the event next year," Superintendent Dzevlan said.

The Dragon Dreaming Festival website describes the event as a celebration of "art, music, nature, and the freedom of self-expression in a safe, family friendly gathering".

The circumstances surrounding the woman's death were being investigated, and police were preparing a brief for the coroner.

Dragon Dreaming Festival organisers have been contacted for comment.

Cause of death TBC...pardon my insensitivity but here's hoping it wasn't drug related so there's no ammo for the anti-festival propagandists...tragic all the same.

Turns out this woman was part of a social group I'm part of, although I don't think I ever met her. :(

Sounds like she got separated from whatever group she was with and died alone. Was she just found lying there once the crowd dispersed? Just sounds a little "left for dead" to me, going by that article.
