There are a lot of great information here. I have been lurking for a few months and am really enjoying the everyone's positive and helpful disposition.

Now about me, I have been on Oxycontin for two years and have been following the doctor's instructions, taking my medications a directed; orally. The most exciting thing I have done is to chew my Oxycontin ER and once in a while I take an extra have dose if my pain won't let me sleep.

Recently I have started seeing a Pain Management doctor because my Orthopedic doc refuses to help me manage my pain properly. I had an L5S1 decompression this year and now my sciatica and lower back pain is worse than before surgery. The most Oxycontin he allowed me to have was 80mg a day for moderate to severe pain. The 80mg only lasted a month and he cut my oxycontin down every month thereafter by twenty mgrams. Until I got down to 30mg a day. I complain constantly about not being able to sleep and spending 22-23 hours a day in bed and after 3 months he increases my oxycontin to 40mgs and then tries lower me back to 30mgs for 4 months even though I constantly complain about my pain increasing.

I have had 3 MRIs and a CTmyelogram showing more disc rupture and he wants me to have a Spinal cord stimulator. I declined and so now I am scheduled for a spinal fusion in 2 weeks.

Finally I started see my pain management doctor and he has me on 15mg oxymorphone ER twice a day and 2 ten mg oxycontin for break through pain . It isn't treating my pain perfectly by any means but it is a hell of a lot better than what my Ortho was giving me.

All you guys are getting a 3 to 4 times the meds and my doctors are screwing around with me and not managing my pain. What the hell is up with that?

I am very conservative and will never IV, IM, Plug, and possibly not insulflate my medications. I am deathly afraid of getting hooked. We'll have to see how things go after my operation this month.

Thanks all for a great forum to peruse while I spend my 22 hours on my back suffering.
