Newbie injector question

If someone is using a .02 wheel filter and a .27 gauge spike for Dilaudids, why after registering, does the vein swell an inch in both directions when injecting? Sometimes it goes in perfect when using smaller veins but when using big veins on hands or feet, they will swell when pushing plunger slow or fast. It usually ends up in a large bruise.

Well for starters.. a 27G is way too big for the veins in your hands and feet. They are much more delicate than the veins in your forearms. Even if they look "big" they are very easily damaged.

27G is the smallest he could find on the website. He was using 18G before. Giant IV sticks. So do NOT use the "big" veins in feet and hands? Use the "long" veins in forearms and legs?

Stay away from your feet entirely if you can. Theres a greater risk of infection because feet are known to be ridden with bacteria and the wounds take longer to heal. If you still have good veins in your forearms/crook of elbow/bicep.. those are all much better options. People don't usually start moving to the hands and feet until all the veins in their arms and wrists have collapsed. a 30G is a good choice for any vein.

Thanks Touc and scag. He tried mid, inside forearm and everything went great. He uses new sticks and syringes EVERY time and ALWAYS scrubs with alcohol before and after. He uses Neosporin after every poke too.

He found 30G sticks and will order them after the 27's are gone. Those 18's were the size of #2 pencil leads and hurt like hell.Thanks for the link. He read many threads about injecting but missed that one.
