New Zealand police accidentally smoke out supermarket with marijuana burn-off

Dozens of shoppers got more than they bargained for when they went to a grocery store at Turangi on New Zealand’s North Island last Friday, and walked straight into clouds of marijuana smoke.

Police were destroying an illegal crop of the drug in a furnace at their station, which is across the road from the New World supermarket, according to Stuff.co.nz.

Locals took to social media to share their bemusement of the situation, with one woman posting on the Turangi Facebook page “this is so embarrassing” and another said “couldn’t believe it when I walked right by the police station and into the heavy smoke with the three-year-old son”.

Taupo Area Commander Warwick Morehu said the conditions saw the smoke travel further than anticipated.

“I apologise on my staff’s behalf to the community and we have already taken measures to change our practice and procedures going forward into the future,” he said.

“It is certainly not our intention to cause harm or alarm to our people in Turangi.”

That's a great idea! Same way casinos pump in oxygen to keep gamblers awake. Restaurants could pump in cannabinoids to keep patrons hungry.
