Hello all, I'm new to this forum, but an old fried of drugs. I am in a strange (to me, at least) situation and I was hoping someone might be able to help out.

Long story short, I got two 8mg Suboxone strips yesterday to help me come off a moderate oxycodone habit. Over the last 8 or so months I've been averaging about 120-180 mg a day, sometimes going as high as 300 mg/day, all insufflated. I weaned down to about 30-60 mg/day over the past week, and then did my last dose, 15mg, yesterday morning - 27 hours ago as of now. By about 3 or 4 yesterday I was feeling the w/d come on, and by 6 I was deep into it, hot/cold flashes & sweats, dilated pupils, sneezing/runny nose, general malaise, etc. I held off on the subs as it had only been 10ish hours at that point and I am not going to risk Pw/d. I took 2mg Xanax to get to sleep and planned on taking 2mg of Suboxone in the morning, after the 24 hr mark.

Here's where it gets weird though: I feel fine today. Maybe some minor fatigue and achy ness, but nowhere near as bad as I usually am at this point in withdrawal. Generally after 27 hours of no use I'm in hell. So my question is two fold:
1. Any ideas as to why I'm not in full blown withdrawals? I haven't done anything different than the last time I was in this position and it was miserable, same duration and general dosages.

2. Would I be ok taking Suboxone without risking Pw/d? I am still moderately uncomfortable so it'd be nice, but again, fuck some Pw/d.

i did 700mg a day for 2 weeks straight and didn't feel much wd at all i don't know why cause i've done less and felt way worse so just count your blessings

Cool thanks for the response. It's just weird because I've come off of similar doses, which I'd been taking for a similar duration, and I've never had less than 3-4 days of acute w/ds, usually more. Even when I was first getting started and only did 30mg a day max I'd have at least a day or two of feeling shitty.

Also, yesterday night I felt awful, but after the xanax I passed out. Woke up this morning with only minor discomfort, although my pupils are still pretty dilated. Its now been 29 hours since my last 15mg roxy, which is a really small dose for me, and I feel just about baseline if not better. I'm going to take about 2mg of Suboxone and see what happens

If you're not feeling any withdrawals...then why bother taking the suboxone? Trust me man, read the numerous threads on here about people struggling to get off of bupe...it's a serious bitch. If you don't need it.. don't sign your self up for that hell. Consider yourself lucky you weren't as strung out as you thought you were, (your tapering probably helped with that a lot) and ride it out with benzos and OTC meds.

If you do take the suboxone anyway.. take as little as possible and don't take it for more than a week. But really... you'll thank yourself later when you're off the oxy and without a new bupe habit to kick..

the first time i got off dope i was also surprised as to how easy it was...don't be surprised, just be thankful!

Not sure why you went from withdrawals into a lesser withdrawal but I will say this:

Temperature changes and the temperature of your surrounding effects the hot and cold flashes by incredible amounts. The only thing I can imagine is that yesterday you really maybe weren't all that sick it just seemed like it. Buprenorphine (the acting agent in suboxone and subutex) has a very long half life meaning that it will last you awhile. If I'm not mistaken the half life of bupe is 36 hours (meaning half of your dose is gone after the 36 hour mark when taken sublingually)

Good luck, hope this helped a bit.

IMO, the brain is powerful. The worst part of WD is the mindfuck, because in your mind you knew you had suboxone, shit dont seem so bad. My 2 cents.

I agree. I also think obsessing over w/d, constantly reading the horror stories and negative effects makes them more pronounced because you are focused on those aspects. First few times w/d always seem the easiest, also probably because the duration of your habit wasn't that long. After 3 years of on/off (mostly on) I guarantee that 'last w/d' feels a billion times worse, also because you have another w/d to compare it to. You look back from your current w/d to the first or second or 3rd and go: wow this is a BILLION TIMES WORSE; even if it ISN"T worse, you think it is beacuse youre currently IN w/d, so relatively the most recent w/d always feels the worst.

Like everyone else says, quit while your ahead WITHOUT THE SUBOXONE. Suboxone will just prolong the inevitable, and make it worse when it comes considering how fucking strong it is. I think I saw a chart saying like 0.5mg sub = 10 (or was it 20?) mg oxy. Soooooo a whole 8mg strip would be 160mg oxy too?

Also, AWESOME NAME! Tyrion Lannister, greatest character in any media currently IMO.

i was really freaking myself out this last binge did 700mg a day for 12 days and i barely felt the wd so i don't think hyping it up makes things worse

Thanks for all the responses, I think you guys hit the nail on the head, with the psychological benefit of knowing I had the sub, and the xanax probably helped a lot too. I ended up taking 2mg of the subs, and it definitely boosted my mood even further, but I'll be saving the rest for just in case I'm ever in that situation again (fingers crossed i wont be). From what I've read about subs I shouldnt feel much if anything coming off just 2mgs right?

Thanks again for the help, and I'm planning on this being the last w/d I ever have to fret about.

If you develop a habit to the suboxone, 2mg's will definitely be enough to give you a problem.. You just took it once..so it doesn't matter. But a lot of people have serious problems getting off suboxone at even sub milligram levels.. let alone 2 full mg's. You don't want to have to withdrawal from that much bupe man...
