New to Needles - Insulin Needles and Pulling Air?

Mr Steak- are you sure you don't have a bleeding disorder? From the pictures, it looks like you have quite a lot of bleeding going on for one or two needle sticks!

My blood doesn't clot, so i know how bad that can look and that is what your arm reminds me of. I saw one pic in your links, and from that pic it looks like it is all bleeding under the skin, it does not look infected FROM THE PICTURE.

If it is hot, you have a fever, or if you see red streaks moving away from the stick - get to a doc immediately. I don't know where you are, but there have been quite a few mrsa cases in the last few months.

I would also think about getting a doc to look at your health in general - you look like you have a clotting problem. Do you always bruise that easily? Do you bleed from other areas - teeth or other places? If so, get someone to find out what the problem is. If you know what it is, it can be taken care of easily - but it's not the thing you want a doc to find out about after you've been in a serious accident and are bleeding heavily!

I don't bleed easy at all. Never in my life have I had a problem like this, never encountered one cut or anything that didn't stop bleeding soon thereafter. That's the part that freaked me out about this one.

The bruise type thing is now scattered around splotches of darkish red, but it seems to be fading.

And that streaking thing you were talking about. I saw red streaks looking like a sunburst coming from one of the hits as I tried to explain a few days ago, but its a few days after now and it seems it's healing. I don't think its hot or anything, and it doesnt hurt when I touch it...hopefully it'll be alright.

Though recently I'm starting to feel sick. Might be something else, or all in my head though.

That's really strange, I wouldn't have been surprised if you had hemophilia or VonWillebrands. Since you don't and don't have other bleeding, it could be it was a large vein or you poked more than one and didn't get sufficient pressure on it quick enough. You definitely had some significant bleeding going on though!

If you could post a pic it would be more helpful. Part sounds good, other parts I'm unsure of... Is the bruising turning the normal healing colors - you know how it goes from blue-y purple to yellows and greens? The reds are what concern me.

This can be 2 things, one isn't a big deal the other is. Some drugs will leave almost a pattern of the path they followed - they look exactly the shape of a vein and can have the appearance you describe. Septicemia can also appear similar. You have red lines that will travel away from the injury. When this is the problem, they will move. It is easy to keep track of them if you mark where they end; if it goes beyond this it's time to get in to a doc asap. It doesn't always appear as lines; sometimes it can be a roundish or other shape; this also expands and can be marked and should be watched closely!

This is really tough, it's hard not to worry when you have something strange going on. Just even knowing about symptoms can make you feel like you are having them. Stay as clam as you can, but watch this closely. If anything is feeling warm, it's really not worth taking a chance and losing a limb over - get it checked out asap.

To me it looks like Mr. Steak might have hit an artery . This would be consistent with the abnormal bruising and the red radial markings. Looks similar to when I nicked my fermoral artery a few years ago.

Here's a picture to clear everything up. - http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/1970/yesm2mx8.jpg

What do you think?

I doubt that he hit an artery.

He's just re-using needles and hittin' in a place that bruises easily. His veins in that location aren't that superficial(like someone's hand, feet, forearm etc) so he's going through more "material" to reach the vein. That, and maybe a bit of phlebitis and hitting a valve, could easily explain all the bruising.

I used to hit the vein on top of my bicep, and it bruised(similar to that but not as extreme) much easier than your inner elbow, forearm, arm, foot, etc.

Just give it time and stop hitting that area for at last 4-6 months.

I stopped needles all together, but does this look like anything bad or is that really just a bruise? Even with the yellow?

The yellow is caused by the bruise healing.

It is what it is. If you think it looks bad, than it does. Personally I've seen much worse, so it's not a shock to me.

Just give it a few weeks, it should all be fine.

Allright I really appreciate that, it was really concerning and kinda flipping me out.

dude, you have a subendothelial hematoma: i.e. a fucking bruise from beating the shit out of your tissues. I know other people have told you this but let me re-iterate.

1) I like your style. Very adventurous:)

2) re-using an insulin syring is assinine b/c the needle dulls quickly, gets dirty (dirt you can't possibly see) and a real good injection should be done with an inch long needle injecting the good stuff and different parts of the vein. Injecting into the same pre-piecred ports with the same needle only weakens the vasculature of your median cubital arteries (the crook of your arm) and predisposes you to bruising and abscesses.

3) It's entirely possible you tapped an artery which is a waste of drug b/c an artery has to circulate through your entire periphery before it gets to the blood brain barrier.

4) Other oral drugs act in either an antiplatelet or anticoagulatory process, i.e. you are more inclined to bleed.

Enjoy! Looking for chums, Anyone in LA PM me.
