Hi all! I have recently been diagnosed with ADD, and I am trying to figure some things out, with no luck.. so, I figured I would try you nice people

A little background: I struggle with depression sometimes, and because of this have been put through the ringer with all kinds of meds in years past. I am CONVINCED that the last doc I saw for it was insane. I'm pretty sure she needed those meds more than I did. With that being said, I quit taking any and everything I was prescribed for about 2 years, and have found that my depression is much better handled without the use of these medications.

Now... fast forward 2 years and the only issues that I struggle with are my focus and social 'awkwardness' I guess you could say? That and the fact that I really struggle to do anything that doesn't seem to be something I enjoy. Which can really affect my family life as a wife and mother.

I went to a new doctor and explained all this to him and was prescribed 20mg of adderall 2x a day... we did try Ritalin first but I didn't see any results except for a very severe stomachache. Since being on the adderall for 2 months, for the past 2 weeks my blood pressure and heart rate have jumped up significantly higher. My resting heart rate tends to be anywhere from 110-120, and yesterday my BP was 140/120 at the docs... but they didn't seem to care.

So, my question is: does anyone know if there are any vitamins or anything I can take with this to help keep that in check? I'm not sure why it took so long to mess with my BP and heart rate, especially since I have quit drinking soda and SIGNIFICANTLY slowed down smoking cigarettes. I do not take any other medications besides tylenol for the occasional headache. I'm hoping there may be a vitamin that would help with it... because the only other thing I can think of trying is something like xanax, which I would really, really prefer to stay the hell away from. See crazy doc note above, lol...

I finally feel more like myself than I have in a long, long time and have been able to get back on top of things with my family life so I would love to just stay where I'm at. The adderall gives me no high whatsoever ... I actually don't even get the movement that most people do, I guess... I just feel more capable of getting things taken care of and figuring it all out.

Suggestions, please?

Not sure if any supplements would do anything. There are things like arginine and hawthorne that some claim helps with hypertension. Fish oil and CoQ 10 are very safe and have better evidence for being beneficial to the cardiovascular system.

It is recommended when high BP or HR occur to either decrease the dose or treat with medically appropriate therapy.

The dystolic and resting HR are kind of worrisome. Remember, Adderall has been known to cause sudden cardiac death. You need a second opinion.

The elevated BP and Heart rate is completely normal, as Adderall is an amphetamine.

The trick you'll need to learn is to get the benefit from the medicine while simultaneously trying to stay as healthy as possible (nutrition, vitamins, hydration).

All of the " B" vitamins are very helpful. Magnesium "citrate" (make sure you get the CITRATE for best absorbtion. It will help in several ways.

Get protein shakes, bars, whatever..just try to eat whatever you can, whenever you can..your body WILL be demanding it.

Feel free to ask anymore questions :-)

Also, all true, to my knowledge. What I notice when I push the limits of amp in my body is more of a strong BP rise and a weird chill that goes from my head down the spine. Not sure exactly what that is, but I attribute it to a little TOO much dosing l dopamine being released.

It's been known to cause that, but only in rate, extreme cases, from what I remember. Still worrisome, yes. OP, try to move as little as possible. Any movement from your body can trigger it..hope you have something to eat and drink nearby.... Just wait for it to pass. Your body is trying to communicate with you..go with it.

Thank you all! Looks like I will be heading out to get some more vitamins! I have a B-complex I have been taking and also a magnesium supplement, but mine is magnesium oxide, so I'm going to switch that to something else. Since it was bothering me so much I initially cut my dose in half and took it that way, and have since started quartering it and taking a quarter about every 2 hours. I don't know if I was sick with something else or what, but my heart rate and bp have definitely went down over the last couple days and I am so happy about that! Thank you all for your suggestions! I appreciate them! God bless!
