I haven't seen any threads on this, but if it is an old topic, mods, please feel free to move.

Has anyone tried the vicodin 10/300? Thanks to you wonderful people on this board, whose posts have educated me about the dangerous level of APAP I was consuming, with a dodgy liver to start with, my doctor has just approved the new reformulated vicodin 10/300s for me. I probably won't be able to pick the script up until next week, but am wondering if anyone else has tried these.

Slightly OT, but I am surprised that the brand name vicodin actually still makes these drugs. I have never seen anything other than generic, and I was actually a little concerned about the potential cost of non-generics, but my pharmacist said that he hasn't had any problem with these going through for payment. So... yay. And thanks again. You guys are great.

All hydrocodone products have been changed to reduce apap toxicity. This might be more journal material, it's just like regular old vicodin but minus some of the tylenol.

Are you in the US? I ask because your comment about the reformulation is not true, at least not in my state, and not according to my pharmacist. The only way to get the reformulation, right now, is to buy the actual vicodin.

vicodin always came in 10/325 (norcos) I guess an extra 25mg off a pill is cool, but it wont make any difference...you can just take more =D

they took 25mg off per pill... that makes such a significant difference!!!! /sarcasm

It does if you have pre-existing liver disease. So sorry to waste your time, though!!!!!!/SARCASM. You can delete my account; I won't be using it again.
Thanks again to those whose experiences and advice were so helpful. The posters here deserve better than the mods they've got.

dammmn! At least 40 percent of my post are "dick posts" and at least half of those are in response to other "dick posts"

For once, I don't think Tricomb was actually trying to be a dick at all, just expressing his frustration over the fact that you can't obtain Hydrocodone without APAP! joking

there's no good reason for it!

Is this a joke?

For those of you who have liver problems you shouldn't be on compounded opioids in the first place, consider that?

hydrocodone doesn't have a commercially available APAP-less formulation, but I'm worried about my liver too as a chronic pain patient, which is why my doctor has me on Roxicodone, it doesn't have any other active ingredients besides oxycodone and they are covered by most insurance companies, unlike various forms of compounded opioids... especially one's that are new to the market. I know Vicodin isn't new they just reformulated to just barely conform to the new FDA limit of APAP/pill (OTC APAP and RX meds containing APAP) but I don't think my insurance covers the 10/300 type.... They cover 10/325 hydrocodones though Depends on your insurance though.
(but I oxycodone is far superior an analgesic for me, the amount of hydrocodone/APAP I'd need would still land me far above the 4g/day APAP limit EVEN WITH THE 300mg NEW STANDARD, which is why I was saying it doesn't make much of a difference........

I fail to see how anyone could interpret my post as feeling like this was a waste of time, or how someone could so easily misjudge a situation and then give up on this community altogether over a misunderstanding, but I don't pretend to understand even 10% of the shit that goes down here....

^I fucked that post up, sorry....I was joking a little, but pointing out that you werent trying to be an asshole to the OP, merely pointing out that 25mg really doesnt do shit to make it easier on your liver....I missed words and spaced the whole thing all wrong...

I almost died from hepatitis B, I know how serious liver conditions are!

So, yeah. I may have overreacted. I am in a fairly high level management position (am I allowed to say that?), and I guess I have grown accustomed to an entirely undeserved deference from people who don't know me. Having said that, I am also experiencing some crazy mood swings due to the stew of mediations I am currently taking -- the opiates are the least of it. I have been experiencing some entirely uncharacteristic meltdowns like this, but way more intense lately, which is causing problems with friends and family, and has precipitated a request for a medical leave of absence to try to get my health issues under control.

But ... your post above is right on. I commend you. I appreciate competence in any medium, and you really know your stuff. The bottom line is that I didn't know I had liver disease until recently. I suspected, but I was just diagnosed with NASH several days before I posted. So, very upset about that, on top of all the other chronic diseases I am dealing with, and I escalated rapidly and inappropriately to your comment. Sorry. I talked to my pharmacist of ten years, whom I trust implicitly, about my concerns. I realized that he couldn't possibly know about the NASH diagnosis, since I wasn't taking any meds for it. Once I told him, he strongly suggested that I tell my doctor I needed -- you guessed it -- roxicodone. I had to laugh. He said it made the most sense by far, given my liver, and other conditions. He talked a lot about the effect of APAP, even on a healthy liver. He is quite passionate about the subject. LOL. Who knew that my mild-mannered pharmacist is vehemently opposed to the practice of loading pain killers with filler like APAP that do nothing -- his words -- except cause liver problems in people who shouldn't have liver problems. He's quite the crusader on this subject. I had no idea.

Anyway, thank you. Excellent advice. I have an appointment with my doctor in June and I will be asking her about Roxicodone at that time. To date, she has been extremely accommodating whenever I ask for specific pain medications, so I am hopeful that this will not be an issue. She has suggested both morphine and methadone in the past, but I do not want to go down that path for various reasons.

Again, this board has been extremely helpful. I wouldn't even have realized that I apparently suffered from an APAP overdose last month if not for this board. I thought I just had a norovirus, but it went far beyond any flu I've ever had. After reading the warning signs of APAP toxicity here, I realized there was little doubt that I had ODed on APAP. I am so lucky that it did not progress past the first stage to the second or third, but I am far, far more careful about tracking my dosage now. Right now, I'm at or just above the 4000 recommended maximum grams of APAP per day, which is really not good with pre-existing liver disease, I know, but will have to work until I can talk to my doctor in June. My pharmacist seems to think that waiting until June will be fine, but he doesn't realize how much vic I'm taking (friends and family provide me with all the norcos I need, plus my script is for 240 a month). Given the dosage info I have provided, am I at greater risk than I realize? I can talk to my doctor's PA about switching to Roxicodone, but I'd prefer to wait and talk to my doctor FtF, unless I'm going to need a liver transplant if I keep this up. Any recommendations on whether to wait or not will be very much appreciated.

So, now I've gone completely O/T, sorry. Just wanted to acknowledge the wisdom of your advice, apologize for my temper tantrum, thank everyone here for their expertise, and, hopefully, find out if I need to request a change to roxi right now instead of leaving it until June. Again, thanks.

Hasn't anyone here read about cold water extraction? I know it isn't possible to do all the time(like at work), but, if properly done it takes much of the APAP out. Even if you only do this to part of your daily dose, over time you have serious harm reduction. Until Hydrocodone comes formulated without APAP, that seems like the best thing to do.

I've tried that with mixed results. Posted on the megathread about it. Just did it again today, for the first time in several weeks, with the idea of trying it again as a supplement, and the same thing happened. I ground and dissolved 25 mallies/Norco in 10 teaspoons of cold water. I had to go through the filter iterations over and over because the extracted hydrocodone remained cloudy. I finally had to stop as I only had four teaspoons of water left, and it was still cloudy (and yeah, I'm using wet coffee filters). Theoretically, this should be over 6000 grams per teaspoon and over 3000 per half teaspoon, but it surely does not act that strongly on me. Don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Sorry mods for going O/T. Feel free to move to megathread.

ETA: After re-reading my post, I notice that I am using far less water than I was previously when I was able to get a clear extraction. Not sure why I switched from 50mll of water to 10 teaspoons. Clearly, I need to be using more water for the process to work as it is supposed to.

I do believe they still make Vicoprofen(hydrocodone/ibuprofen tablets), that may be an option for you, but if you have to take them often, they pose health risks as well.

They actually make an even WAY better Hydrocodone pain pill called Vicoprofen, comes in 10/200 and 7.5/300, that's Hydrocodone and ibuprofen. wish they would make those without hydrocodone but instead Oxycodone/ibuprofen 10/200 and 7.5/300

Hey, all is forgiven, I am so sorry that you have a liver disease!!!

I'm sorry again, but I'm going to be bold here and say something that I have no right to say but my morals won't let me not say it.

If you have liver problems, you should not be taking compounded opiates. I am extremely concerned for your health and well-being and all politeness aside... You can't wait that long. I don't know how long it is until your next doctors appointment but you have liver disease!!!! What kind of doctor puts someone with liver disease on 4g APAP a day?!?! They're either clueless or careless...

PLEASE DO NOT WAIT TO SWITCH TO ROXICODONE. Every day makes a difference and 4g a day is the maximum daily dose for adults with healthy livers. You have a compromised liver, make some phone calls TOMORROW...

I am not a doctor but I think that this should be treated extremely seriously, like I would not put this off at all if I were in your shoes....
