New Opana ERs not working!

I haven't posted here before but need advice about the new Opana ERs since I'm in excruciating pain. Quick background: I've been on Opana ERs for a few months due to a spinal cord injury. I was trying all the short lasting meds but nothing maintained my pain relief until I finally found a doctor who put me on Opana ER (30mg, 3x day). It was a blessing; I finally felt somewhat normal and could go through the day without being in pain or having the side effects of short lasting meds. I never abused any meds and would rather not be on anything but living in pain is not an option.

The point of this thread: I recently filled a new script for Opana ERs (30 mg) and initially realized the shape was slightly different (round instead of octagonal) but took one as scheduled around 9pm. I didn't make it half way through the night before waking in a sweat and feeling violently nauseous. Not only that, my pain was back - something I haven't experience for months. I looked at the RX bottle to see if something was different and saw the words "crush resistant". Whatever they put in these pills is making me sick and not helping relieve the pain anywhere remotely as they used to. I called the pharmacy and they told me that this new formula is replacing the old one permanently. I am so upset at how my quality of life has changed because of this (I've been on this new formula for a few days and am still sick without pain relief). Can anyone tell me what my options are at this point? I tried Oxycontin once and had the same effects. I realize now that it had the same type of formula. I am so disgusted at the manufacturers for tampering with this medication. Any advise would be appreciated.

My advice would be to tell your doctor what you're telling us & see if he can switch your meds......I would recommend Morphine pills or Opana IR pills

im having the same exact problem!!!!! they switched mine to the new formula and i heard they dont even break down in your stomach, im so violently pissed and its always a pain in the ass contacting my doc. i was so happy to have found opana in its old form of course, it made me able to live my life and now i feel like im backtracking...

I feel for you - I know how frustrating it is to find a med that works and then it's gone. I spoke to my doc about how the new Opanas weren't working for me (made me very sick and didn't relieve pain as they previously did). He put me on Methadone which I was very surprised about since I thought these were used for people who abused meds and were trying to stop. However, he said they are commonly used for pain relief. They work but the side effects are terrible. I'm always very tired and nauseous and can't function normally. I feel like my options are getting more slim. The other possibility was morphine (extended release pills). Can anyone tell me if these work and what the common side effects are? Any help would be great.

Morphine ER has really worked for me for day to day baseline pain reduction. I get absolutely no recreational effect from them, just pain relief, so they are easy to take as directed. They don't mess up my stomach as both oxycontin and opana did...a lot of folks will say morphine is crap, but get the right dose and bet you will like it..it doesn't make me feel sedated, either. I tried methadone once and literally passed out on the floor it was so sedating....

OP, it doesn't seem that you have many other options other than making an appointment with your doctor to discuss an alternative medication to treat your pain adequately.

I get the same effects from morphine ER as you stated. I am not a chronic pain patient, but I have been saying that if I ever was, I would choose morphine ER as my medication if given the choice. I find it to be excellent for pain, and since I do not find it euphoric it is a lot more practical that I would take it as directed. I don't feel more euphoria when increasing the dose, which is yet another reason why I would not abuse this medication the way I would with drugs such as oxycodone.
