You might have noticed that this sub-forum's name has changed from "Advanced Drug Discussion" to "Neuroscience and Pharmacology Discussion". We felt that the prior name of the sub-forum was too vague, rendering the precise purpose of the forum unclear. The new name reflects this forum's continuing mission, to foster lively discussion of the mechanisms underlying various drugs' effects, the evidence that sheds light on these mechanisms, and the publications that detail this evidence. If you want to know more about this forum's mission and guidelines (or if you want to post in here at all, really ;)), please take a look at the forum rules stickied near the top.

Thanks for the all the discussion provided under the old name, especially by those that have taken the time to share their valuable insights with the rest of us. May the new and improved name expand on this forums great achievements thus far!

I like the change, maybe it'll draw people who are less interested in getting high and instead are focused on the academics of psychoactives. I hope it'll inspire more, well, inspired conversation. Fingers crossed!

Attention Deficit Disorder -> Narcissistic Personality Disorder

So we've moved from an Axis I disorder to an Axis II disorder... is TBI next? ;)

There are so many sufferers of NPD it seems these days it could create a great many of it's own sub-classifications. Perhaps the DSMVI will address these issues. :) Perhaps the depersonalization created by advances in digital communication such as the internet and the i-phone are to blame? Or are we, through selective breeding based on our NPD traits, a race of egomaniacs?

Please note this is purely meant as a humorous jest at the human condition, it's reaction to technology resulting in reduction of face to face human interaction and the resulting social dynamics that face today's generations. This not intended to be in any way offensive. I think the Neuroscience and Pharmacology Discussion is a much better title, doesn't sound like a forum about better way's to get high anymore.

It's okay--jokes are allowed on all subforums. ;)
Also, frankly, anyone who thought that "Advanced Drug Discussion" implied exploration of better ways to get high is in semantic disarray. ;)

The DSM-V already came out...you're behind. Axis aren't used anymore. :p

i just realized that this name change raises an egregious issue

for those who don't remember, basic drug discussion was originally called drug basics, and the name was changed after the creation of advanced drug discussion, to emphasize the opposing polarity of the two forums.

now that add isn't add anymore, bdd is named bdd arbitrarily. it is lunacy. imho the only acceptable course of action is to change bdd back to drug basics and never speak of this abomination of history again

In fact, the ramifications may be much more severe than that. As ADD and BDD were originally intended to oppose each other topically, I believe that NPD and BDD must STILL oppose each other topically. This means that all future topics in BDD must be diametrically opposed to discussions of neuroscience or pharmacology. I task Roger&Me with spearheading this change :D

^it will not be computationally trivial, that's for sure. NPD topics have a forum spin number > 1/2. They are, in a sense, quadrupolar topics and cannot directly oppose BDD topics. It will be necessary to use vector combination of BDD topics to approximate an NPD-type splitting pattern.

brb, petaflop supercomputer

What you've done by changing the name is to shut the door on discussion by any academic discipline not explicitly named in the title.
