This from the office of U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer:

"U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer today announced that the United State Senate has passed the Combat Methamphetamine Enhancement Act of 2009, a bill that he backed to enhance the ability of the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) to crack down on methamphetamine production. The bill amends the Combat Methamphetamine Epidemic Act, which passed in 2006, also with Senator Schumer's co-sponsorship. That law required retail sellers of ephedrine and pseudoephedrine (two chemicals used in the making of methamphetamine) products to file a "self-certification," attesting that they had trained their personnel about the law and its requirements. Unfortunately, many retail sellers still have not yet self-certified, and law enforcement has reported difficulty in identifying non-complying stores. The new bill clarifies the old law, and toughens up penalties on those who do not comply.

“Meth is a dangerous, addictive drug that can be devastating to adults and teens alike,” said Schumer. “I have fought long and hard against meth use and to raise awareness of the drug’s dangers. One of the best ways to stop meth use is to stop it from being made in the first place. This bill will plug holes in the law, and make it tougher for dealers and pushers to buy the chemicals that make meth.”

Specifically, the legislation will:

• Require all regulated persons engaged in retail sales of ephedrine or pseudoephedrine products to self-certify that they have trained their personnel and agree to comply with the Combat Methamphetamine Act (CMEA). The CMEA include daily sales limits and 30-day purchase limits, placement of product out of direct customer access, sales logbooks, customer ID verification and employee training.

• Require distributors of these products to sell only to retailers who are either registered to sell controlled substances or who have filed such self-certifications;

• Require the Attorney General to provide a downloadable database of all retailers who have filed such self-certifications on its website, so that distributors can check their customers against this database to ensure compliance; and

• Clarify that a retailer who negligently fails to file self-certifications as required can face civil fines.

Methamphetamine is a very addictive stimulant drug that affects the central nervous system. It is widely abused throughout the United States and is distributed under many street names, including "crystal meth," "crank," "meth," "crystal," "tina," "crissy" and "speed." Abuse of the drug can cause paranoia, hallucinations, repetitive behavior, and delusions. It is commonly sold in white powder form that dissolves in water but has been distributed in colorful tablets or as crystals and sold as "glass" or "ice." Meth is psychologically addictive, and users become paranoid and unpredictable. Most of the methamphetamine abused in this country comes from foreign or domestic superlabs, although it can also be made in small, illegal laboratories, where its production endangers the people in the labs, neighbors, and the environment. Methamphetamine can be produced in home labs using pseudoephedrine or ephedrine, which are the active ingredients in common over-the-counter drugs.

Schumer has a long history of pushing to raise awareness of the Methamphetamine’s dangers. In March, Schumer announced his support for the Meth Mouth Prevention and Community Recovery Act, to establish programs for dentists to educate children about “Meth Mouth,” and identify meth users. Meth mouth is a distinct and often severe pattern of tooth decay through which a dentist, with proper training, can identify a crystal meth user."

Fuck That my friend. I like meth but it isnt my DOC. But any harsher regs against any drug make me mad. All those people who are for the legalization of one drug (usually budz) and say other drugs (usually meth/crack/heroin) are "evil" are uneducated fools. drugs are not good or evil, they are inanimate objects. ALL drugs should be legalized, its the only way to be fair.

That still won't stop the cooks who allow buyers to pay a certain % of what they owe in sudafed.

Ex/$100 bag = $80 + 2 sudafed boxes

yEs thank god. Seriously the DEA should only be there for REAL dangerous drugs/poisons like meth and whatever other shitty drugs come in the future.

There are some drugs (or as i call them POISONS) that should not be around the streets. I especially dislike Meth and Crack, they turn people into something else, they change your personality. As far as Heroin, i have never seen someone addicted to Heroin lose their morals like they do on meth and crack. And don't blab and say "oh well people on Heroin rob stores to get their next fix!" - this statement only applies to those people that are 'criminal minded' before they ever even got addicted to opiates.

Whoopie! Now meth makers will have to turn to other precursors and probably not ones of pharmaceutical quality.

Im going to have to disagree here. Ive had many friends who were great people before they developed an IV dope habit. Now they are perfectly happy with lying cheating or robbing thier friends and family members to get the moeny for dope. I just wanted to mention that heroin can definatly warp a persons morals and actions.

hmm i disagree, if a person is a righteously moral person b4 they get addicted to opiates they WILL NOT go rob and steal to get a fix. If they go broke and can't afford the drug they will detox at home quietly by themselves or if the addiction is too big they will get on suboxone/methadone. Stop putting a label on the intelligent opiate/drug users. The usually un-intelligent (ignorant) drug addicts are the ones that fall into crime and deceitfulness. But I always was under the assumption that most of us HERE on BL are the 'intelligent drug-users' that handle our shit on our own.

I know that there are people out there addicted to opiates that steal and rob but those people were pieces of shit to begin with in life...

Have you seen your bi-polar father turn slowly into a heroin junkie and then finally become homeless on the streets and do nothing about it but fucking cry? Have you seen your own mother slowly turn into a meth addict and lose all her money and ruin her fucking life? Going through meth psycosis and doing fraud to get money for more meth, losing your job because you fall asleep after a week binge and when you wake up with no money or drugs your left to fucking lie there.

Of course they won't go and steal, my father is the most morally correct person I will ever know. Even the people on the streets know him as a very good guy. But now hes stuck using his disability checks and welfare for heroin and when his money is out doing nothing but fucking crying and puking on the streets. Crime isn't the only negative that comes along with drug addiction, it's money and let downs. Fucking over your child, telling him your going to take him to a hockey game, then either never showing up to get high, or coming over and ending up puking in your bathroom for hours crying and apologizing and without anything to do about it.

And yes, meth addiction does change their fucking personality, or atleast fuck with it. I've never witnessed a crack addiction though so I can't say anything about it.

Tweekers would much rather pick tablets out of thousands of blister packs rather than do backbreaking physical labor on an Ephedra farm?

Plus, the quantity of plant material would require a huge Colombianesque clandestine farm/lab, or a really, really good excuse for importing ton quantities of Ma Huang. It isn't a realistic approach, even on a small scale.
