Pretty interesting article I read and it reminded me about things I read related to the best strains of marijuana to use in detox from opiods/opiates. Most posts I read said something like avoid sativas and get a good Indica which is completely wrong as I now understand it. Sativas are generally higher in CBD which is responsible for the calming effect vs. the pyschoactive, trippy effects of THC.

Israeli medical cannabis labs have developed a strain with something like 18% CBD and no THC. This sounds pretty awesome :P

The OP contradicts my own experience. I find sativas WAY more stimulating. If I smoke a sativa in the evening, it becomes impossible for me to fall asleep at a reasonable time. It just amplifies my insomnia to the nth degree.

If I smoke an indica, I don't feel like doing anything.

It's my understanding that indicas are higher in CBD to begin with, whereas sativas have more THC content that must be converted to CBD in the liver. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong because I'm not an expert on the chemistry.

^ relatively speaking most indica drug strains have hardly any CBD at all. The amount in these strains is unlikely to have any effect on you at all.

I find it hilarious that this Israeli group 'invented' this new high CBD, low THC strain. I know of growers that have done this many years ago so they're mistaken if they think they're the first.

I didnt see in the article ANYTHING about sativas being higher content in CBD than indicas

And the amount of CBD found in indica strains will not vary much from the amount of CBD found in sativa strains.
Generally, indicas provide the couchlock + are good for relieving anxiety BECAUSE of their high CBD content. CBD can treat anxiety and, from my experience working in dispensaries, the indica buds have generally been the ones with higher CBD percentages.

Unless you consciously breed in the CBD allele, you won't have much in the way of CBD content. It just won't be high enough to have much of an actual effect. The reason is that one of the criteria most breeders aim for is potency and breeding for this trait results in you unconsciously breeding out the CBD allele. The CBD and the THC allele are both codominant and so the presence of both produce an intermediary amount of both cannabinoids, reducing potency over a homozygous THC allele strain.

I disagree with your statement that the CBD content in indicas is what is mainly responsible for the couchlock in indica strains. On the contrary, it is actually due more to things such as terpene content. The idea that indicas are very high in CBD and that this is what causes couchlock is just another pervasive stoner myth. It's repeated so often that people don't really bother to read up on the subject to see whether it's really true or not.

That is not to say CBD does not have some very interesting properties. In fact many people suffering from anxiety and other conditions find it very helpful.

I might add that you'll find a lot of landrace cannabis strains that we would call 'sativas' are often naturally high in CBD. Especially if they're charas varieties.

Thanks for the very informative post. :)

Very well written.

Yeah I was definitely wrong about Sativas having a higher CBD content. I read an article on projectcbd.com about how CBD is stimulating except in high doses which is why I made the incorrect correlation of Sativas being more stimulating so therefore higher in CBD.

Really want to get my hands on some seeds for this, got some mates who would probably benefit from it.

people usually think.. Oh yeah indica that has CBD that's why you get that couch lock.
that's not correct, as far as im aware CBD does interect with a THC induced high, however it is also known for its Anti-Psychotic, Anti-inflammatory and anxiolytic (anti-anxiety) properties.

Id like to smoke a high CBD strain to see

CBD is not sedating, that's CBN

Generally yes, but to put it more correctly the ratio of CBD:THC is higher in Indica strains.

? Not

A strain like that is problably not going to get you very 'high'. I know, I've tried it. It smells like hash when it's burned.
