My name is Jack. I have a degree in chemistry & spent most of my 40 year career selling fine organic chemicals as well as consulting on intellectual property pertaining to patent claims for current proprietary drugs that were going to become generic. I have one U.S. patent & one publication & a number of other chemical inventions (processes & new molecules) that were never patented by the companies I worked for. I've worked for very large international chemical companies as well as for small 'kilo lab' custom chemical companies.
My interest in psychoactive drugs goes back to my college years when I first saw the structural formula of mescaline. I spent a lot of effort doing a literature search on chemical syntheses of that molecule as well as its presence in certain cacti such as San Pedro. I later obtained & grew San Pedro & 'Juul's Giant' in large pots & developed an extraction method for obtaining a concentrated solution of mescaline in water without the need for any flammable solvents.
I have used Psilocybe mushrooms & LSD as well as marihuana & hashish, at one time traveling to Amsterdam to enjoy consuming both without fear of arrest. My first real experience with pot was with an unremarkable ditch weed variety that actually affected me so strongly that I hallucinated visually about front door lights on people's houses. I abused nitrous oxide to the point where I developed a tolerance for it.
I am currently retired. My latest interest has involved gabapentin, which I have used for years to treat the depression side of bipolar disorder. My recent experiences with taking very large doses I will save for the appropriate forum if there is one here. I also take Xanax (generic: alprazolam) as a short-acting (2-2.5 hours) sleep aid. I have a number of things I would like to relate & hopefully learn about this & other benzodiazepines in that forum if there is one.
I had 2 operations recently as well as an endoscopy. Even though they said they were giving me midazolam & fentanyl via IV, I was awake for the entire priocedure, which I did want to repeat. For a colonoscopy & a major eye operation I asked them to use propofol, which worked like a charm on both occasions.
I have ChemDraw 17 Professional that I can use to draw molecules & reaction sequences & save them as jpeg files for uploading as graphics.
As a newbie here I expect to make typical newcomer mistakes but I'm a quick learner & expect to improve.
