New hobbies with little cost

If you have a habit of breaking things a lot maybe make a hobby of fixing the things that you've broken. Im about to go to a gardening store to find a plant that i might want to grow, sadly i have court in a few days and may have to do jail time. Raising bugs like praying mantisis is awesome, i used to do that when i was younger. Also making latex halloween masks isnt as difficult as you might think if youre into horror/costume stuff. Making statues out of soap bars or wood is pretty hard but would be amazing as well.

I enjoy aquatics and playing with my dogs. Get yourself a fish tank. The cost can be high initially but not bad once you have everything you need. There is a lot of maintenance in cleaning the tank and whatnot, but that's part of the hobby :) Fish are very calming for me.

Reading books and observing nature have always kept me from feeling bored. I'm a bookworm and books are a true passion for me so I spend a lot of time in libraries or in parks reading.
Bird watching, identifying plants and insects, walking in gardens or parks are always interesting if you keep in mind that you are learning something new by doing it. If you have a public library near you just grab a field guide on birds or mushrooms or wild vegetation and take a long walk...

Geocaching is a pretty cool way to see some things you may overlook daily where you live, and its free as well. Also I noticed snorkeling was mentioned a few times. I guess i'm a little spoiled living in the keys and doing it there, but there are plenty of great spots all along Florida.

Personally I am trying to get into all kinds of amateur science and have since modeled myself after the fictional "super scientists" found on TV shows. Right now I am involved in amateur pyrotechnics, the real kind not the salute or bang making kind think areal display shells and fountains. That utilizes a small amount of my chemistry knowledge and is more for exploiting my desire to work with chemicals and create things. This is not a cheap hobby as its been 100s in chemicals and I havent really been able to start because I need to create a ball mill out of a rock tumbler (easily will do this week)

The second thing is a branch of that which is amateur rocketry. That is different then model rocketry as I create and cast the fuel. Create the tubing to put it in, balance the engine so it goes straight and then add stuff to it and eventually work in the "experimental" side of it working with composite fuels and spin stabilized bodies so they dont need the stick. Through this i hope to make a rocket that is way more capable then anything that can be bought.

My third and most recent thing is electronics. Last weekend i took apart a radio using the schematic and located all of the capacitors resisters etc. Learned what they look like on the circuit board as well as their pictures on the schematic. My parents have a TV i can take apart this weekend and learn from. Eventually I want to be able to wire and do repairs on TVs and other electronics. I figure the scientists in the shows are always building things and thats what i need to do. I will eventually consider building a fully functional ham radio and getting a license, why not.

All of this is leading to the most epic of house hold science; the fusor.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fusor

I will eventually make one of those in a few decades. All of my hobbies are life long hobbies and i want to advance them until i have achieved things that i had no idea i was capable of. Also these things are well within my capabilities of understanding, sure they will push me to the edge of my abilities but thats what i want. I love the R and D aspect of science and i love fine tuning things over a long time until you have achieved this crazy goal. Almost everything will go into the fusor and I will need to contact physics professors and machinists and what have you. It is a lifes goal to create fusion with my own hands and understanding.

If you like dogs, then there are sites that allow you to be a dog walker/babysitter when the owner is busy, work, away for a weekend or you simply offer to walk people's dogs.
there are a few security "phases" to go through before the owners trust you with their dog, naturally, but once you've found an owner and dog then your options and endless to go visit places on a dog walk and meet new people in the parks

Exercise. Drug use is full of rushes from dopamine and serotonin releasing in your brain. Exercise releases endorphins which make you feel good.

Cooking fresh wholesome foods has become a hobby I enjoy and has helped me since I stopped cocaine. Admittedly I binged a bit on other things over the tail end of last month, had a 2 week break and now have some heroin. After that's done though I'm going for a long break and enjoying the sober life, which has been happening more and more naturally anyway.

Spending time with family, we've gone back to eating at the table, and we watch a movie together once a week on Sundays. Go to the cinema once-twice a month, walks along the beach etc. That really helps if you can mend bridges with those close to you.

Gaming is another thing, drug use is filled with trials and tribulations, so is gaming.

Learning. If you can find a subject your interested in studying even just doing alot of home reading and researching yourself in a non academic environment can be fun :)

If you're interested to build up a new hobbies, I suggest you play outdoor sports, like soccer or cricket. Playing these games you'll have fitness benefits and little cost will make you a very happy person.

Any sports will do. Also computer tinkering/programming is a great hobby. I can see that the initial investment can be pricey, but if it's a smart purchase then it'll go a long way.

I've probably spent close to 5K in the last 8-10 years of computer gaming which isn't much considering other hobbies of mine. Sports (football) to me became a money pit because I had a fascination with maintaining the latest in sports fashion lol. Indoor cleats can become expensive and very fancy in no time.

Where do you live in Central Florida? I live by myself which is not great since I was always a solitary drinker. One way I deal with that is to take my laptop and a good book to one of the funky independent coffee houses like the Drunken Monkey in Orlando or Austin's in Winter Park. It's just nice to be around people, especially the funky crowd those places draw.

I kayak a lot - you can probably find one pretty cheap on craigslist. Also, I just got my bike fixed and am discovering the Orlando Urban Bike Trail Network.
