My friend took 20mg of loperamide....what should the effects be and how long till they feel something. We are aware of the BBB, just experimenting to see what happens... any thoughts?

Hi welcome, this thread may be better suited for Basic Drug Discussion.

Loperamide really isn't a medication that is recreational. It doesn't cross the BBB but it works similar to Suboxone (the drug used to help addicts quit heroin by masking WD symptoms) because it attaches to the MU receptor just as opiate(oids). Therefore satisfying the receptor into thinking that the brain has enough of the substance the feel normal.

It really is not recreational.

Shorter version: He's not going to feel anything Loperamide isn't recreational.

Loperamide is actually a failed pain medication. When tested it didnt have analgesic properties, but it had the side effect of constipation, so they re marketed it. Through some experimentation, a buddy of mine noticed when taking loperamide (he didn't specify dosages) and adding half his normal dose of opiates, he got the same affects as his normal dose. Different people react to medications differently though, and I wouldn't advise mixing drugs.

I have no idea why some people say they get high off Loperamide, I have tried it for withdrawal symptom and It did nothing else then helping with the diahrea.

Thanks for the info. I 'll be sure to try and post in the right spot next time....

i know... i think its ridiculous. it helps for diarrhea because it is marketed to reduce urgency and diarrhea. it's not something you take for fun!

It can help the gut/stomach/intestinal withdrawals from opiates and allow someone in terrible withdrawals some relief.

Then if taken regularly the user becomes dependent. So stopping the loperamide causes withdrawals and taking it provides relief. But no, it does not make you high.
