Hi everyone!

39 years old and for the last 60+ days I've been drinking sun up to sun down. I am unable to attend any treatment and I've been reading about using gabapentin as a way to help the withdrawal process.

Would anyone be interested in giving me advice on1) how much does 2) when to take it and 3) how long would this process be? Thank you!

Hey and welcome to BL Bw!!

What are you drinking and how much during a day? Just gives people a base line where your at with giving you safe advice on slipping out. Im sure you are fully aware, alcohol is quite the drug.
Ok please don't laugh lol.

I got addicted to those high noon vodka seltzers. I was drinking a minimum of 16 cans a day and some days as high as 26. EDIT: This started roughly 65 days ago

I have been trying to taper, I've been trying cold turkey, but normally I can only go about 8 hours from my last drink and the withdrawal symptoms start. Nothing "serious" but the constant twitching, shaking, sweating badly.

No heart issues. No blood pressure issues

It's best to take 300mg every 30 minutes or so. It's like the most your body can absorb with the best bioavailability, which isn't great. 63% I believe, but it decreases to 47% at 400mg, and gets lower from there. You could technically just megadose all at once and still feel it but that would be a waste of pills. Aleve increases it by 14%, but I don't know if that's worth some of the stomach discomfort that can have especially if you were to take one with each dose. But obviously there's some hardcore people out there who don't care though lol.

Some people swear by eating with it and drinking soda to increase bioavailability. I don't know about the soda, but fatty meals do increase absorption rate slightly. I never really did it like that, eating something every 30 minutes with each dose. I think it still works without eating, I noticed feeling it stronger after eating sometimes. You can stagger this to 900mg and it should help, or more if you feel that isn't helping.

Thanks for the information!

Ok just to understand - every 30 minutes take 300mg? And what do you mean about "staggering to 900mg"

Thanks again!

The total mg depends on how it affects you I guess. I think I've heard it maxes out in a way at 900, but people have staggered it to 3000mg but that's pretty excessive. I think 900mg is a good thing to start with and see if it helps either way. The first time I ever took 900mg of this I was konked. If you notice it helping at a lower amount mid stagger, I'd maybe stop it there and see how you feel for a bit.

So on a normal day, what would be the TOTAL mg I take? My day normally runs from 8am until 1130pm
900mg Gabapentin is a good dose man

3 doses daily

Pregabalin much better but whatever

Gabapentin is still a VERY good drug thoughh :)

If wds symptoms are 8 hours from your last drink, you're in pretty good shape. I'm no expert on gabapentin but imo you need a benzo like Valium to avoid the life threatening areas of withdrawal. Day 1: 10 mg Valium, 3 times a day. Day 2, the same. Day 3: 5mg 3 times a day and you're done. Good luck

Preg has a high potential for abuse so I don't know I'd recommend it. Gabapentin tolerance builds fast which is why it's less habit forming. But that probably wouldn't matter for you. If it helps it helps. Be sure to post an update on how you're doing

It varies from person to person, but with the info given, I'd say you'll be completely fine within 3 days.

Believe it or not, thats only heavy "clinical" drinking.

Gabby will help, just taper down after day 3 and you'll be fine.

Or find about 9 tablets of 10mg Valium, take 3 per day in dicided doses for 3 days then stop.

Most of this is going to be psychosomatic. In really you'll most likely have the shits, sleep crappy, have little appetite and some anxiety. But nothing serious.

If you want to make it a tad easier, have 3-4 drinks in the am, 3-4 in the pm

Reduce by half after 1-3 days, repeat

Then just stop.

You'll be fine and congrats on getting things together!!!!
