New Florida Prescription Narcotic Law Starting Jan 1s 2012 (F.S. 456.44)

I could not find any news articles about it but did find this nice little write-up giving a good summery of what it is about.

In connection with new legislation relating to the treatment of chronic pain, the State of Florida has made notable changes to the law relating to the prescribing of controlled substances. The new statute generally now makes as law standards for prescribing that includes what were formerly administrative code provisions.

First, the definition of chronic pain has been changed somewhat. Previously, chronic pain was defined as “a pain state which is persistent.” Now, there is also a statutory definition of “Chronic nonmalignant pain” which means pain unrelated to cancer or rheumatoid arthritis which persists beyond the usual course of disease or the injury that is the cause of the pain or more than 90 days after surgery.......

At the start of December my rheumatologist office said all patients prescribed narcotics would need to come in by the end of the month. I went in on the 30th to find out that now she is legally only aloud the prescribe narcotics to people with rheumatoid arthritis and since I have ankylosing spondylitis I will now have to get my pain meds from a pain specialist. Mine along with several other conditions are in a grey area right now and a decision won't be made until April. What is really absurd is my condition is also a type of arthritis and just as bad if not worse along with other conditions not on the list.

My doctor 100% agrees with me how insane this new law is and that the fact it is in the hands of politicians makes it so much worse. As a patient with severe chronic pain living in Florida is infuriates me.

How old are you and when were you Dx with AS?
How severe is your case? Do you have or expect any fused verebrae in your future?
Has it affected any peripheral joints yet or is yours confined to your axial skeleton?
Sorry for 20 questions, I've just got an interest in AS.
What else do you for treatment? Any exercise, PT, injections, immunosupressants, cox2-i, etc?
I feel for you man!! How was yours Dx? I've got a firm dx of lumbar radiculopathy et al from DDD, but present with plenty of symptoms of AS.
Thanks in advance. Glad I don't live in Florida!

That really sucks Phen.
Have you noticed that the heavier indica buds (or specifically the high concentrate CB2 strains) help?
The medical industry is temporarily beyond fucked atm. It's a good thing that it's not considered as important as buying new rims with a welfare check.
