Hi Everyone,

I have a few questions in regards to opiate withdrawal. Long story short, I've been living with restless leg syndrome for the past 10 years. My primary understood how difficult it is to live with and went through all the proper medications to make the feeling subside. Requip, lyrica, tramadol, mirapax.....I had tried it all. Then he put me on hydrocodone and the pain/feeling went away almost instantly. That was 5 yrs ago, my doc passed away and my new primary does not agree with the treatment method. So I've been slowly weaning myself off knowing that i will probably no longer be prescribed the medication. I was taking three 10/660 hydrocodone per day. Never abused the drug, just used as prescribed to alleviate my symptoms.

So I'm down to taking one 2.5mg pill in the morning and one in the afternoon. My plan is to drop down to one 2.5mg pill per day next week and then sadly my prescription will run out. I have a neuro appt coming up and I am hoping he will continue this medication. I've tapered fearing I won't be able to continue.

So give it to me straight...... What type of withdrawal am I looking at?

Thank u in advance for your help.

Sound like just the basic withdrawals when you stop taking opiates. Everyone is different so its hard to say what your going to have.

With a taper down like you are doing, you wont have too many issues IMO. But, I would suggest getting some loperamide for just in case.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

Welcome to the forum! Any questions feel free to send myself or any of the staff members :)

hopefully since youre being weened down, your withdrawals wont be too severe. everyones different. since you took the meds as directed, and youre properly weening, you should be pretty much ok, given the basic irritability and maybe nervous stomach, get some loperamide, like they said before and good luck with your treatments. i know its a horrible thing to have a dr. switch up your treatment plans...ive gone thru it myself.

I wish I could tell you that hydrocodone is so weak that quitting should be like nuts and candy, but sadly this is just not the case. Withdrawals from all the pill opiates last a longer time than Street H, but is no where near as severe generally. I think you're doing a great taper medically right now and some of the things you'll be facing when you go with no drugs are a bit of a fever, restless/achey extremities, headache/nausea, lack of apetite and anxiety. But you should deal with a very small amount of that, I just quit a dope habit of about 50 a day and I did a 5 day subutex taper and it worked miracles. Ya I felt shitty for about 8-12 hours, but it never even got bad enough for me to tell the nurses (I was just assuming it was gonna get worse and kept waiting it out till it was over!) Stick with it man, you can beat the devil that is opiates and come back to a normal life!

A little but more about me.

36 yrs old, wife and mother of 3. Just struggling to deal with my on going battle with RLS.

As far as the taper goes, it has been ok. Not many struggles so far aside from the rls coming back. Some anxiety but not really any depression. I've already gone ahead and purchased some immodium for bathroom issues. I'm just wondering if it is going to get worse going from 2.5mg per day to nothing. I actually feel ok right now.

So that's my story, any other thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

2.5 is a really low dose. You should be fine, nothing more than mild effects like mentioned before but shouldn't last more than a few days at worst. If you do have any probs then tel your doctor.

Have you tried any benzos? Valium has great muscle relaxant properties as well as klonopin and both are longer lasting. This I know from being a chronic pain patient and being diagnosed with anxiety disorder.

W/D shouldnt be that bad. You started a good taper method and the low dose the physical w/d symptoms should be minimal. The mind is where you may have some issues. I broke a 5yr heroin and methadone habit recently. i do chip here and there but, you can be susceptible to cravings for like a year after. Everyone is different. Good luck

RLS is one of my worst wd symptoms. So it might seem like your rls is worst than before, but just tough it out and you will be fine.
